China's premier to tackle Bush over Taiwan and bra taxes

The prime minister of China arrived in Washington last night for the new leadership's most important overseas visit yet, and he was preparing to challenge President George W Bush over a list of issues from Taiwan to brassieres.
The visit by Wen Jiabao, regarded as the most liberal of China's leaders, was supposed to set the seal on two years of improving relations with the Bush administration. But meetings may be less friendly following a fresh outbreak of tension between China and Taiwan.
Mr Wen is sure to discuss the threat of a trade war with the United States. Although Mr Bush lifted tariffs on steel last week, he had previously placed punitive charges and quotas on Chinese television sets and lingerie, including bras.
The row has been termed "the storm in a D-cup" and led to China abandoning plans for a trade mission to boost US imports.
Mr Wen is also likely to demand that President Bush "rein in" Taiwan's president Chen Shui-bian and assert opposition to the island nation's independence.
Mr Shui-bian yesterday confirmed that he would hold a referendum next March to demand that China withdraw missiles aimed at the island.

"China's Premier To Tackle Bush Over Taiwan And Bra Taxes Well, ok. As long as it's a clean tackle and not an illegal crackback.
To: blam
"bra taxes" I've seen a couple of bras that were severely taxed.
To: blam
OK, Mr. Wen, you keep your hands off Taiwan, we'll keep our hands off your brassiere.

I've seen a couple of bras that were severely taxed. In some cases, they're the most valuable assets the bearer possesses.

Regarding bra taxes, I guess a "flat tax" would really hurt China.
