If, and that's a big if, the majority of Iraqi people really want liberation and self rule and are willing to die for it there is a chance this will work.

Otherwise they weren't given the proper attitude adjustment...

Dead on. PC idiocy has consequences. It is an unfortunate fact of human nature that being "nice" does not counter insurgencies. Russia knows this, the Brits know this - but we have an overabundance of "Barney" thinking here for us to be effective.
