I will never forget Elian.

I will also never forget how this energized the Americans of Cuban descent in Florida to vote and to support the Republican ticket. Without that, Bush would have lost and Gore would now be our President. Something good did come out of the injustice after all.

I believe most people bought the "with the father" hokum at the time. What is forgotten is that the father was fine with Elian staying in America until Fidel changed his mind.

Meant to note that yes indeed Elian did come back and bite the Dems in Florida. They paid dearly for that mistake, and it WAS a mistake.
