My dad served as well. USS Finnegan, destroyer escort, a 'tin can'. He was at Iwo Jima. Sent home hundreds of letters to my mom, we are just now going through them. One said, 'I am one of the lucky ones, I have not been wounded or killed. Pray for me, Love."

Squarebarb,

My Grandfather was on board the "Fightin Finnegan" for the duration of it's service in '44 and'45. He died a few years ago and left behind a scrapbook filled with pictures and about 500 letters to my grandmother. When I was a youngster I can remember him telling my brother and I about the Japanese sub that they sank on the way to Iwo Jima. I have a bunch of the crew's individual pictures that they traded around with their addresses on the back. What was your Dad's name? I might have his picture!
