"I think about the 1,177 men who were killed," he said. "Many of those sailors never knew the love of a wife, of a child, or a grandchild," Langdell said. "That was the price they paid so you can live the way you are living today."It's a shame that so many don't or won't remember that.

My uncle was stationed at Fort Benning, Georgia at the time of Pearl Harbor. In his book he says the men were looking foward to General Patton's speech the next day over a Columbus, Georgia radio station. Patton got about four words out before the station had to cut him off. I guess you couldn't use certain words over the radio back then.

I'm lucky to still have two WW2 vets alive in our family. My uncle, fought in North Africa, Sicily, and Normandy on thru Germany to the Elbe River. My father served in the navy on the Atlantic side mainly involved in convoy duty. He was a machinist on a destroyer.

BTW My dad is the older brother of my mentioned uncle. 82 and 81 years old.

I know this has little to do with Pearl Harbor but I'm grateful for all veterens who have defended this country. Thanks Sandrat.
