After Arnold Schwarzenegger's election victory, John Cleese looks like being the next screen star to run for political office in the United States. Fellow Monty Python actor Michael Palin tells Spy that Cleese is thinking of running for mayor of Santa Barbara, California, where he now lives.
"John's very involved with the local community there," said Palin at this week's Hatchards' Christmas party. "He says that he might be running for mayor, and I think he'd do a great job."
When he lived in Britain, Cleese was a prominent supporter of the Liberal Democrats, and appeared in several of their party political broadcasts. Of his chum's acting career, Palin adds: "John has decided he doesn't really want to do comedy any more. He has a very active and inquiring mind, so he's doing these guest appearances in Harry Potter to fund the rest of his life."

And now for something completely different......

I think Cleese is conservative. At least that's what I had read several years ago.

Now that I think about it, the city does need a Department of Silly Walks.

"Bring out the holy handgrenade of Antioch." THREE shall be the number before thou countest to before thou throwest thine Holy Handgrenade of Antioch at thine enemy.

Too weird! I just finished watching my Life of Brian DVD not 30 minutes ago. I wish that he'd stick to comedy.

Yes, make no mistake folks. The Liberal Democrats here in the UK are all spineless liberal
bast@rds. (just like yours!) Much as I admire Mr Cleese' acting abilities, I could not say the same for his political acumen.

Will he do the 'silly walk' thing while campaigning? :)
