"Dumbing Down" Award
The Federalist Newsletter | 12-5-03 | The Federalist Staff

This week's "Dumbing Down" Award goes to Fox Infotainer Bill O'Reilly for this comment on the racial divide in Cincinnati after the videotaped death of a black man who resisted arrest: "Cincinnati is a southern city. It has that southern mentality." (Of course O'Reilly is from New York -- and almost everything is south of there!) The Cincinnati coroner has determined that heart disease, illegal drugs and obesity were major contributing factors in the man's death. Resisting arrest was also a major factor. Of course, all the race-baiters are comparing the event to the videotaped of Rodney King resisting arrest by the LAPD -- you know, Los Angeles is "a southern city" with that "southern mentality."

OOOOOOOOPS...get out more Bill...there is a whole world outside of New York, and it is not all "southern".

Yet another reason for me to not like O'Reilly

I wish people would understand he's just tabloid journalist, and always has been

I was stunned when I heard O'Reilly say that the other night. I am assuming that he is suggesting that all southerners are racist....I am getting sick and tired of the stereotypes associated with the south. He is no better than that dumbass Howard Dean!

There is less to Bill O'Relly than meets the eye.

I'd rather watch re-runs of something on Lifetime than watch Bill. Even Puala Zahn has had some interesting guest lately (Bush Sr.). O'Riley lost it when he had a best seller in 2000.

Good post FlyLow, not only is O'Reilly a bigot but he also an idiot. Perhaps we should freep him by mailing a pile of Altasies to him, all marked where the South is and where Cincinnati is.

If you've ever been to Cinci , you would realize that it has a more slow-moving Southern pace. That's all Bill meant!

O'Reilly has become an ego-driven goof of late, but he was right on Cinci. The Queen City has the slower-easy-pace of a Southern town, and they're proud of it. Travel a little.

If you've ever seen WKRP in Cincinatti, you might understand why us city-folk might consider Cincinatti "rural" and thus "southern". (Midwest? South? Y'all got funny accents and live on farms. Same thing.)

(I'm trying to be funny, not serious.)

I haven't watched O'Reilly for months. He's just a blow-hard, rude, arrogant jerk. (now I feel better).

I think you ought to use the past tense on that statement. My first experience with this guy was a number of years ago when he was putting out the same sleeze as a number of other talk show emcees [Geraldo, Merv Griffith, Oprah, etc.] on television.

He was just as slimy as the rest. I was quite suprized when Fox took him on board and he [once in a while] made sense on some of his programs.

O'Reilly thinks that whatever comes out of his mouth is a holy dispensation. His ego is quickly approaching the level of Hillary Clinton's.

Actully, I am thrilled that Bill finally found a story that doesn't relate to his obsession with teen sex.
