Has the recently introduced Geneva Initiative already given fuel to those who want see Israel knuckle under to terrorists, and who want to see Jerusalem divided?
Jerusalem Mayor Ehud Olmert strongly denounced US Ambassador Indyk's comments last week that there is no solution to the impasse over Jerusalem but to divide the city.
For the first time ever, a U.S. government official, Ambassador Martin Indyk, said the city of Jerusalem, "is not, and cannot be, the exclusive preserve of one religion." >/b>
Said Olmert in an interview with the Jerusalem Post Radio, "I don't know that Martin Indyk is a religious commentator, and I don't need him or any other to advise us on how to live in complete religious freedom." "All believers, regardless of affiliation and background, can feel free to practice their religion. We have proved to the whole world that only under the political sovereignty of the State of Israel can religious freedom survive."
Olmert said that he is not sure whether the remarks were authorized or meant to convey an official statement by the US government. "If the statement was official and endorsed by the President of the United States, then this is the first time that I can recall that the President and the US officially and publicly sponsored the actual division of Jerusalem," he said.

Just what is the Geneva initiative?
The contents of the Geneva Initiative have been made public, and serve only to send even more alarming signals to those who are intent on the destruction of the State of Israel. The document is rife with fundamental dangers and certain mixed signals.
The Geneva Initiative, like so many of its predecessors, seems to reward terrorism by blatantly ignoring the need for reform in the Palestinian ranks. The basic truth that would emerge if all parties accept this document is this: Israel will make any concession if extended force and terror tactics are used by her enemies. Israel would have lost the fight to stop terrorism. Would America's fight against terrorism soon fall victim to another group of renegade negotiators bent on determining America's future, as well?
The document does not demand changes in Palestinian methods. Arafat would remain in control. His desire to see Israel annihilated would be the driving force behind any Israeli/Palestinian relations. With what he might well perceive to be worldwide backing, Arafat's terrorism tentacles would spread even further afield. After all, terrorism brings its own reward-wealth and power.
Even though it is couched in smooth rhetoric and wrapped in velvet, the Geneva Initiative is based on UN Resolution 194. It states: "[T]he refugees wishing to return to their homes and live at peace with their neighbors should be permitted to do so at the earliest practicable date..." This could conceivably mean that the Jews living in the State of Israel would be stripped of their property, and driven from their God-given country. This would legitimize, in the eyes of the UN and the PA, the destruction of the Jewish people.
The Geneva Initiative would confer upon the Quartet (Russia, the EU, the UN and the US) and at least one Arab state, the right to determine Israel's actions, and therefore, her future. It is entirely possible that Israel would lose its status as a sovereign state, and be stripped of the ability to defend her people.
Former Prime Minister Ehud Barak: "After three years of one of the most bloody suicide bombing campaigns in the history of terror, led by Mr. Arafat and Hamas, we find Israeli and good-intentioned leaders like former President Carter rewarding terror. It will not save lives. It will lead to more loss of life in the future. There is no recognition of Israel as a Jewish state-the simplest demand... Somehow, this fictitious agreement creates an illusion that somehow, magically, it is Sharon and not Arafat that is responsible for the fact we are not moving toward peace."
President George Bush's guarded reaction is that the new initiative should follow his blueprint for combating terrorism and should allow for the establishment of a democratic and free Palestinian state. Following a meeting in the Oval Office with Jordan's King Abdullah II, Bush stated: "We appreciate people discussing peace. We just want to make sure that all the principles to peace are clear."
The Israeli representatives at the Geneva meeting spoke of love and peace and Appeasement. The Palestinian representatives used the opportunity to condemn Israel, criticize Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and threaten even further horrors if Israelis do not comply totally. Former President Jimmy Carter took advantage of the opportunity to condemn President Bush and his policies.
It is time for the people of God to take a stand...to stand up and be counted.
