Defense attorney Craig Cooley said in opening statements earlier in the trial that the drawings demonstrate that Malvo "continued to self-destruct once he got put in jail. ... They're drawn for the purpose of self-destruction." And they'll succeed, too! They give me the heebie-jeebies.
The defense thought this would help?

What an idiot... Show a jury all these pictures with Jihad and OBL on them and the knee jerk reaction is, "Uh... Guilty?"

They indicate the exact opposite, in my opinion. Separated from his so called "mentor", he starts to churn out this stuff in splendid isolation.
Looking at his writing and artwork, one is left with the impression that his every waking moment is consumed with thoughts of violence and mayhem.
