As of Tue 2 Dec 2003, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of the Congo has reported a total of 47 cases (confirmed, probable, and suspected), including 28 deaths, of Ebola haemorrhagic fever in Mbomo District, Cuvette Ouest Department.
97 contacts are being followed up.
A team of experts from WHO Geneva, and the Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network have joined the team already in the field, and will contribute to epidemiological surveillance, social mobilization and public health education, and support for diagnostics.

Since the previous WHO Update, dated Mon 24 Nov 2003, the number of cases has increased by 11 from 36 to 47, and the number of deaths by 10 from 18 to 28. The outbreak is not yet contained, but appears still to be confined to the Mbomo District of Cuvette Ouest.
