On September 11, Dr. Rowan Williams, the Archbishop of Canterbury, happened to be in New York, a couple of blocks from the World Trade Center. Made no difference

All violence works with that sort of distance." Last month, the archbishop happened to be in Istanbul and was a guest at the home of the British consul, Roger Short. Within a few hours of his departure, Short was dead, vaporized in the wreckage of an almighty bombing.

Memo to self: Keep track of where Archbishop Williams is and avoid being in the vicinity.

Yes, I share this surreal feeling sometimes. Talk to some people, and like they live on another planet. No regards to history, no consequences for actions, observable facts are interpreted completely differently. Fascinating.

Thanks for the post and ping.

Let's do better than that. Let's arrange for each of them to meet 72 dainty virgin starlets.

I have a brother who has always "loved life". He said that this 72 virgin stuff proves that these people are fouled up because, in his words, he'd rather have,"6 good concubines" (he used a rougher term).

Good catch. Lewis was a wise man.

"May I kill it?"
"Well, there's time to discuss that later."
"There is no time. May I kill it?"
"Please, I never meant to be such a nuisance. Please - really - don't bother. Look! It's gone to sleep of its own accord. I'm sure it'll be all right now. Thanks ever so much."
"May I kill it?"
"Honestly, I don't think there's the slightest necessity for that. I'm sure I shall be able to keep it in order now. I think the gradual process would be far better than killing it."
"The gradual process is of no use at all."
"Don't you think so? Well, I'll think over what you've said very carefully. I honestly will. In fact I'd let you kill it now, but as a matter of fact I'm not feeling frightfully well to-day. It would be silly to do it now. I'd need to be in good health for the operation. Some other day, perhaps."
"There is no other day. All days are present now."
"Get back! You're burning me. How can I tell you to kill it? You'd kill me if you did."
"It is not so."
"Why, you're hurting me now."
"I never said it wouldn't hurt you. I said it wouldn't kill you."

The refusal to face the monster that is Islamic terrorism is based largely on the fact that its very existence threatens a number of comfortable assumptions on the left, notably the moral equivalency of murderer and victim.

Another big assumption that is threatened is that all religious faiths are basically equal.

I was going to call it a "sacred cow" but decided not to.

Shalom.

Memo to self: Keep track of where Archbishop Williams is and avoid being in the vicinity.

That will be especially helpful if the Worldwide Anglican Communion doesn't break it's relationship with the Episcopal Church. He's liable to draw a lot of lightning bolts.

Shalom.

Thank you so much.

Lewis will turn out to have been a prophet if his book The Abolition of Man continues to come true.

Shalom.

In recognition of our friends and allies, the Saudis, I lift a finger in salute.

My thoughts exactly.

Bump

Madsen's column, entitled "Wag the turkey," arose, it quickly transpired, from reading too much into a typo in a Washington Post story and an apparent inability to follow complex technicalities like time zones.

Bump. The Reality-Check of Islamic Terrorism is not having any effect on the loony-left. This obtuseness should not be accepted at face value. Rather we must assume the reverse...they get it...but since they don't responde with the logical position...it must alert us that they in fact intend to obliquely and duplicitously use it against their fellow countrymen... Thus, one should conclude that the threat from the Marxists is as undiminished in the West as ever. With this level of conspiracy, we have to ask the same question that Whittaker Chambers posed: Can democracy long survive?

Being of the same persuasion I share your concerns. It's unbelievable how far out of synch the clergy are with their congregations. Gay Bishops and left wing anti-war clergy are going to drive away what's left of their flock.

So we can look forward to some demented DU'ers actually believing the president made the troops get up at 6:00 a.m. to be served turkey.

Just like the DU's still believe that Fox News threw the 2000 Florida presidential election by predicting a Bush win before the polls closed in the Florida panhandle. Actually, Fox's first projection came well after the polls closed. There were people projecting the election before the polls closed. They were the liberal networks, and they predicted Gore would win. Nonetheless, the liberal myth will go marching on through time. Liberalism is nothing if not the stuff of urban myth.

REALLY. WHILE you're at it, why not demand every freed Saudi get a couple of "dainty starlets" of his choice for the plane ride home?

Let's do better than that. Let's arrange for each of them to meet 72 dainty virgin starlets.

I'm with you. I think we should drop them out of the plane as it passes over the airport. Without a parachute, of course.
