Indiana Guard News. Former 76th Bde Commander dies

It is our sad duty to announce the death of Colonel (Ret) Bill J. Abel, age 69, who passed away on November 30.

Viewing is on Wednesday December 3 from 3:00 to 9:00 p.m at Flanner and Buchanan Funeral Center, Washington Park East (10722 E Washington St).

Services will be held at Washington Park East Community Life Center (10612 E Washington St) on Thursday, December 4 at 11:00 a.m. with calling at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be at Washington Park East Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in Colonel Abel's memory are requested to donor's favorite charity.

Cards of sympathy and condolences may be sent to Mrs Jeannie Schmidt Abel at 939 Clossey Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46227.

Foillowing the burial services a celberation of Colonel Abel's life will be held at the Working Man's Friend at 234 N. Belmont.

This will mostly have meaning for members and former members of the Indiana Army National Guard.
Col. Able commanded the 76th Infantry Brigade (then headquartered in Bedford) during the early 1980's. After retirment from the service he became the civilian head of facilities at Atterbury.

The 76th Bde is the parent orgainization for the 2 battalions now serving in Iraq.
