Reporter: "You did say that to me when we talked one on one (Sept. 6, 2003) that you would consider a package deal that would have included a requirement of insurance for those people that are going to get the drivers license. That I know is something that you believe in. Do you also believe that all undocumented immigrants will be able to get a drivers license if they present insurance, if they have a background check, fingerprints?

And how many times doyou need to be reminded that if it hadn't been for Arnold, the Legislature wouldn't have reversed itself, and even if the voters repealed it, it would have gone into the courts, where would have suffered the same fate as Prop. 187.

You just can't stand it that Arnold is doing everything right.

This shows that you don't care about the principles, as you claim, and are just an Arnold hater, very similar to the Bush haters.

When Arnold talks about a guest worker visa program, all of a sudden people pretend that he is actually talking about the illegals.

It's not an assumption, Schwarzenegger supports John McCain's S 1461.

I am encouraged by the approach laid out by Senator McCain to provide a clear path for legitimizing undocumented immigrants who currently live their lives in the shadows. McCain's bill S 1461 - The Border Security and Immigration Act of 2003
  • A new H-4A visa for immigrants seeking temporary employment with important protections to ensure that immigrant workers are not exploited and that Californians are not displaced by unscrupulous employers;

  • A new H-4B visa for undocumented immigrants who entered the country before August 2003, have held a job since that time, and do not have a criminal record.

  • The opportunity for holders of these new visas to gain legal permanent residency status.

When Schearzenegger says "undocumented immigrants," he's talking about Illegal Aliens.

Here's what McCain's s.1461 says about Illegal Aliens...

SEC. 3. ADMISSION OF TEMPORARY H-4A WORKERS.

    `(g) GROUNDS FOR INELIGIBILITY-

`(1) BAR TO FUTURE VISAS FOR CONDITION VIOLATIONS- Any alien having nonimmigrant status described in section 101(a)(15)(H)(iv)(a) shall not again be eligible for the same nonimmigrant status if the alien violates any term or condition of such status.

`(2) ALIENS UNLAWFULLY PRESENT- Any alien who enters the United States after August 1, 2003, without being admitted or paroled shall be ineligible for nonimmigrant status described in section 101(a)(15)(H)(iv)(a) during the 3-year period beginning on the date of such alien's departure or removal from the United States,

< -snip- >

SEC. 4. ADJUSTMENT OF STATUS TO THAT OF H-4B NONIMMIGRANT.

    (a) IN GENERAL- Chapter 5 of title II of the Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. 1255 et seq.) is amended by inserting after section 250 the following:

`adjustment of status to that of h-4b nonimmigrants

`SEC. 251. (a) IN GENERAL- The Secretary of Homeland Security may adjust the status of an alien to that of a nonimmigrant under section 101(a)(15)(H)(iv)(b) if the alien meets the following requirements:

      `(1) UNLAWFUL RESIDENCE SINCE 2003-

`(A) IN GENERAL- The alien must establish that the alien entered the United States before August 1, 2003, and has resided in the United States in an unlawful status since such date and through the date the application is filed under this subsection.

`(B) NONIMMIGRANTS- In the case of an alien who entered the United States as a nonimmigrant before August 1, 2003, the alien must establish that the alien's period of authorized stay as a nonimmigrant expired before such date through the passage of time or the alien's unlawful status was known to the Federal Government as of such date.

Text of Senator John McCain's S 1461

When McCain is talking about aliens "unlawfully present," he is talking about Illegal Aliens.

So...

McCain's S. 1461 would legalize Illegals by reclassifying them as "guest workers."

Schwarzenegger supports McCain's S. 1461.

Therefore: Schwarzenegger supports legalizing Illegals by reclassifying them as "guest workers."

You are quoting McCain, NOT Arnold.

All Arnold said, he is "encouraged" by McCain's approach, NOT that he agrees with it, nor that he plans to follow any of it.

I quoted both. I quoted Arnold, then McCain. The links are in red.

False.

Arnold's words, quoted and linked above...

"Senator McCain's plan contains the key principles that should guide any proposal to solve the immigration impasse."

False.

The the power of referendum to overturn legislation is reserved to the people, as provided for by Article 4, Section 1 of the CA Constitution.

The Save our License referendum would enact no new law, it would simply have repealed SB60.

The courts couldn't throw out the results unless they could also throw out the legislature's own repeal.

Folks we are going to have to be alert on this. I guess we have to see what happens. I always thought in return to repealing the license law Arnold promised the legislature he would sign a tougher bill. Obviously I was right. If a new bill is passed and signed then we will have to get an initiative passed repealing it. If no new law is passed allowing illegals to get license, then on the November ballot we must put before the voters an initiative prohibiting illegals from getting drivers licenses.

At the risk of offending some Republicans, I agree as you said this shows most
Republicans are too spineless
to actually try to stop illegals from getting DL's.

>>>and let's make the undocumented immigrants happy<<<

Just name the state "Mexifornia" and take down the Custom's and Immigration lanes at the Tijuana/San Diego border.

Then they'll be happy Arnold.

You also have to wonder about Schwarzenegger's repeated emphasis on giving the Illegals auto insurance. Was there anything in SB60 that denied them auto insurance?

The clue is found in his gubernatorial donor list. The list contains three classes of indentifiable, large donors. Building contractors/developers, auto dealers and lenders/insurers and the first

And greatest of these moneyed donors were the lender/insurers. They benefited greately if illeagls were granted liscenses and thus identification allowing them to legally qualify for credit. With credit comes the car and with it the manadatory insurance.

And God bless both of you, who are surely representing the Lord well in "not taking into account a wrong suffered." This business of "I'll defend myself by leveling a similar insult and/or a proud toss of my head at the perceived insulter" can lead nowhere but to hell.

I assume you must have read the page earlier, before the Redneck had his comments removed. I am taking it that BibChr's remark about having trouble hearing is not a royal "toss of the head" at the driving off of an enemy but a gracious forgetting. There ought to be some gracious forgetting all around (except for the illegal aliens who should be required to get back in the immigration/visa queue from square 1... sooner or later a cluster of these folks are going to turn out to be Che Guevaras with a nice juicy WMD for Los Angeles, then Schwarzenegger and Bush are going to look STOOOOOOOPID).
