I may be off on this but this is not necessarily the best person to invest our emotional capital in. I congratulate her on her survival, her achievements and her acceptance of the conservative way of thinking but I am reminded of that expression, "There, but for the grace of God, go I"... She has good ideas but the truth is she had help in coming to where she is now. All that I see her doing is criticizing others for the same things she did. Perhaps she can write a good book but please consider the fact that were it not for her very right wing ideas, no one would be giving her the time of day. I look at Janice Rogers Brown and Condoleeza Rice and I do not agree with all of their ideas but I have to say that they let their lives be an example of what they believe in and they are not proxy critics for someone else. They speak loudly but based on experience and they serve the public good more than their own. Their primary goal does not appear to be gettting their 15 minutes of fame. And I am not about to tell my daughter that the best way to succeed in this world is to go and do crazy things and then adopt a political philosophy that most people would not expect you to adopt... And write a book criticizing the same people and institutions that accepted you when others would not.

The thing that we have to remember is that Christians are not perfect, they are just forgiven. This has nothing to do with writing a book and acting like you are ashamed of those that have the same color of skin or background as you... Everyone can find fault with Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, but the truth is, she does not have contact with the vast numbers of black people that work hard and try to lead their familiies, churches, and communities by example.

I think of Saul who became Paul and I do not see her accepting responsibility for her past. That is one of the first rules in repentance...

I have seen her speak and she is only concerned about her message and her views. She is like so many I have seen before looking to kiss up to conservatives by beating up on minorities. I am just as critical of those in my community but I also recognize the history of this nation and I recognize that I do not know the circumstances that bring each person to their station in life.

Also, I am not sure what experience in government policy making she has been involved in but it does sound to me like she is sounding off more to get attention than to actually advance the conservative beliefs.

I hope I am wrong but she gives me a bad vibe...

And how is she different from Al Sharpton or Jesse Jackson when everything she speaks about revolves around race? There is so much more to us than that...

I don't think she is "beating up on minorities", as you put it, or recommending her past to the rest of us. She obviously did things that were not right, but the point, I think, is that she stopped doing them.

Yes, there was help available to her, but again, the point is that she took advantage of that help and changed.

I hear her criticizing those who are content to wallow in the past as an excuse NOT to make changes, so yes, she can find fault with Al and Jesse. You may have a point that she does not seem contrite enough about her own past, but I prefer to think that she is merely staying on message.

Her point is not to bemoan her own life in public, because--who cares? Her point is to motivate others who are stuck in a bad paradigm to change it, then change themselves.
