I'm sorry they're unhappy, but Bush really doesn't need to chase the votes of those who unrealistically believe that the president's job is to ensure their career.
They are responsible for making sure they possess the skills to make themselves marketable in a competitive capitalistic society.
If they believe otherwise, they are welcome to vote for the Democrats, and delude themselves into thinking that will make their careers any more happening.

That's all well and good, but it has absolutely nothing to do with this particular article. The author never once criticized, or even mentioned, Bush and his ill-advised spending decisions.
If it did, the article would have had a valid point and your comments would have made sense.

Plus, as an added bonus, France is whimpering louder than usual. But wait! There's MORE!! The UN has been completely marginalized.

John and Scott are dead wrong, of course: Clinton knew there was danger to Americans from a terrorist group called Al Qaeda and did do something about it, if perhaps not all the right things, whatever those might have been; Bush knew of the danger before the World Trade Center attacks and probably did lessNo New York Times bias here, right?

Sorry, it's
Village VoiceTraining ground for NYT. My bad.

In defense of the Village Voice, they never pretend to be an unbiased news source, as the Times so comically does.

I'm sorry but tell me who forced you to read it? Sorry sort of meant it as a joke given that they are the most left wing paper in America. In the future I will try not to reply to anything you post so as not to upset you.

I suppose my response to this Free Republic thread on my latest Village Voice article would be to implore: Hey, I'm not making this stuff up. It's all on tape. Lots of people I talked to who eagerly supported George Bush in 2000 are deeply skeptical of him now. Not all, of course; not even most. But enough of them--and in enough interesting and surprising ways--that if I were a Republican, I would be thanking Rick Perlstein for alerting me to their presence.
I believe what I believe. I don't hide it. My interpretations are my own, and you can and should disagree with them. But when it comes to my reporting, I would do no one a favor--and especially not my own side--if I did not try to accurately represent what I, in good faith, heard people tell me on my trip through the Rock River Valley. What can I say? Please, please, please, continue to dismiss me as a Chardonnay-sipping elitist instead of taking seriously the possibility that what I reported is actually happening: that Bush's support is softening in interesting ways, ways that make him vulnerable. Ignore that, and my side has it made.
As always I welcome correspondance at
