The widely played videotape showed Nathaniel Jones lunging at police officers and hitting them as they ordered him to stop.

Is there an explanation as to why he lunged at the police?

"Had the PR-24 been used properly "

And would you please tell all the assembled kiddies just how to properly use the device? Are you not to strike the perp? Use it to attract his attention, ala the birdy? I would like to know!

Have you ever used that PR 24 in a real situation? Ever used it on somebody high on drugs or on a mental?

Ever hit a guy with a PR 24 and he laughs at you? How about hitting him and he charges you and throws you on the ground?

I've been certified and carried and used the PR 24 for a number of years. I used it in Kata and studied the use of it in karate. I even have a steel "tonfa" that I made and used to train with. I could use two at one time and combine them with kicks.

Truth is, the PR 24 is a piece of shit. I've been hit inadvertently by other officers in the heat of battle and didn't even know I got hit.

And there are legitimate strikes with the grip handle. There are more devestating strikes that these cops didn't even use.

He had cocaine and PCP in his system -- probably mentally unstable. It's a plain fact that folks on PCP do some strange and violent things.

Thank you for your well wishes.

The real concern, right now, is that we not allow the agitators and apologists to so undermine morale on the Police Force, that the good men leave, and there is no one of equivalent quality to replace them. We have been very lucky in the past, in that we have had a very high calibre of Police Officers. Our department was the model in the 1950s--our Police Chief was the advisor to J. Edgar Hoover's FBI in preparing uniform crime statistics, for an example.
