Mexico City, decembre 01 (FINSAT).- Transportation and Communications Secretariat (SCT) workers called a work stoppage to protest the planned firing of 4,000 of their comrades, to become effective next December 5.

In an interview, the head of the SCTns operations sector, Victor Manuel Garcia Paredes, said Monday management announced the layoffs, which will include Telecom, Marina Mercante and Central Offices personnel.

The union boss said the slicing of the labor contract also calls for the firing Telecom members of the unionns executive committee and he wouldnnt dismiss the possibility of the workers taking to the streets of Mexico City to protest SCT managementns decision.

Garcia Paredes said that besides the sacking of 4,000 employees, the government also plans, through its Voluntary Retiremnet Plan, to lop off another 5,000 public workers, which would add to the growing list of 4,000 personnel let go last August.

Meanwhile, the Federation of State Employees Unions (FSTSE) came out strongly Monday against the SCT action and warned it would not tolerate anymore layoffs.

FSTSE boss Joel Ayala Almeida condemned the action of the SCT, which is headed by Pedro Cerisola.

He said this was very bad timing for the SCT because the FSTSE was right in the middle of negotiating public servant labor contracts with the Finance Secretariat.

Ayala Almeida urged public servants to not be bullied into voluntary retirement because they would soon find themselves in a tough labor and financial predicament once they lose their jobs.

All right. We get that you're looking for as much bad news as possible, but that does not cancel out growth in our economy.

Maybe those GREEN ANGELS here in Mexico, those bureaucratic mechanics famous in 1948 when the World War II manufactures turned to making AIRSTREAM trailers that went to Mexico. Then in 1950-1960 they surely needed every one of those GREEN ANGELS. Why now, there are two mechanics every 5 miles between Laredo and Mexico City. Seeing these Green Angels now go up and down the highways...are they really helping stranded tourists? (98% of the tourists now fly into Cancun and Acapulco) Maybe some of these Green Angels will get NON funded!

What, bureaucrats lost their jobs?

Not to worry, the consulate sector of the Mexican bureaucracy is exploding, they can find jobs there.
