Leonardo Da Vinci was an open flaming homosexual. He and some of his homo buddies and illumanitti pals would do works for the Church just to make money and not because they were devout Chritians or even bleievers or folowers of Christ of any sort...
A couple of books that investigate Jesus and Christianity are: "The Case For Christ" and "The Case For Faith" by Lee Strobel. He explains a lot about the liberal "Jesus Seminar" that is full of liberal bible scholars that are out to liberalize Christianity and remove Jesus' divinity.
Two great books that I highly recommend. They are now in paperback and sold everywhere.
