You forget, Kobe Bryant.

Real glad I don't own a television.

One reason that working journos don't often see what's out there is that they don't use Google. Most of them use Lexis/Nexis which only catches stuff that actually ran in a daily paper somewhere, or moved on the wires. Therefore it propagates the bias of its included sources.

Most working journalists are more likely to believe an op-ed in the New York Times than a US DOD press release. (Guess which one has been fact-checked?)

Accuracy is secondary to timeliness in the daily press.

Use the same credibility tests in dealing with the press that you would if you were a judge in a courtroom. Is the story spun to advance the paper's collective opinion, or is it an "admission against interest"? In the later case it is more likely to be true.

Note that gothmog's findings are just in the last few days. We captured thousands of Al-Q and Al-Q subgroup members earlier on.

We usually let the small fry go -- many of them are recruited by lies and the best way to undermine their faith in their wannabee leaders is to treat them humanely. Kind of like the Japanese POWs in WWII who were amazed to find that they weren't promptly eaten.

Note also that it's international -- but wait, that wouldn't fit into the whole 'Bush is a dumb, stubborn unilaterist' storyline.
