[history]
University President John T. Casteen, III issued a statement yesterday responding to allegations that a Medical Center employee used a racial epithet during a conversation at a recent staff meeting, calling the usage "offensive" and "insulting."
Following reports of the alleged Nov. 10 comment, Medical Center CEO R. Edward Howell conducted interviews with the person's supervisor and the four other employees who were present during the remark to ensure a consistent interpretation of events, Casteen said.

I can remember in the Yankee Capital a few years ago when a black city official was bemoaning his department's niggardly budget, and got taken to task by the Cult of the Perpetually Outraged, Offended and Pissed for use of a racially insensitive word. The most discouraging aspect of the whole incident, to me, was that the guy apologized (and I could be wrong, but I think he also resigned).

Oh, and to put this story into some context, the University invited Al Sharpton as a guest speaker a few months ago. PCness run amuck...I may have to return my degree...

You are correct sir, he did resign. DC Mayor Williams rehired David Howard a month later though.

Thank you for the correction on the city official's race. I still think it was an embarassment that he was forced to resign, in spite of being re-hired.
