I have a friend who was widowed when her husband, who had hemophilia, got HIV from unsafe blood products used to treat his genetic disease. His infection happened before screening procedures were in place, so I consider it a bad outcome rather than medical negligence, but that's neither here nor there. It seems to take a lawsuit to get people to fix these things anyway. (Why IS that?)

His death was long and painful--and expensive, even before the life-prolonging drug regimens became available. Little was known then, so all HIV carriers were guinea pigs, by necessity.

Also long and painful was the resulting class-action lawsuit, which left her with a paid-off-house...and angry former in-laws who felt the money should have been theirs, so they've been dragging her back to court periodically to try to get the money away from her. She is HIV negative which is truly a blessing and a miracle, but she may never find a man who is as good to her as the one she lost.

That anyone could deliberately or negligently spread this to innocent others absolutely infuriates me. As you say--it is NOT curable--but we know enough now to be almost 100% sure of preventing it.

Please note in Africa, HIV positive men are raping infants to try to "cure" their infections. There's hardly a way in the world to keep anyone safe when people set out to make innocent people sick.

A sad but oft repeated story.

Innocent victims.

The Red Cross here and abroad have been criminal.

Then there is the Clinton/Arkansas/Canada AIDS infected convict's blood scandal we saw so much on US TV and the NYT.......

The left uses the courts.

Mark Levin of Landmark Legal Foundation (WABC 770am NYC M-F 6-7pm) and others know how to use it better.

Unaccountable federal judges are another matter.

I see darkness on the horizon.

For them.
