We called them “cracker balls” when I was a kid in Japan. You’d get 100 for 10 yen (about 3 cents). Right next to them were the slingshots that cost 25 yen. What fun it was shooting them at each other! No one ever got seriously hurt as we did establish rules that shots had to be below the belt.

We graduated to full tactical BB gun wars a few years later. Of course we wore heavy clothes and a swim mask complete with snorkel. Once in a while you’d have to dig a BB out of the back of your hand, but it was still great fun.

The coolest skateboards were made with one of your sisters “lost” skates, a 2 x 4 and a handful of dad’s nails. Combine that with a long hill and your dreams of defying death were sure to be fulfilled. That is, until you came to the tiniest little piece of gravel or crack in the road/sidewalk that would bring your board to a complete stop in a matter of a few feet. You, of course continued your decent at about 30 mph rolling ass over end across the concrete. It sure was fun to be a kid back then!
