Wow, and this just after I read an article in my local paper (Newsday) today about Samarra, and how it was a town we "could have won over" but was now against us. Bullsh**! This is a Sunni town, and a deeply Islamist town. They were never going to accept us. One of the civilians quoted in the article as having "turned" against U.S. forces cited as the reason... that we had searched his house and his wife complained that we damaged furniture and tracked mud on the floors. (!) Are these reporters this stupid? Just because people tell you "I was ready to like the Americans, but then they...." doesn't mean it's true. They could be lyin', ya know.
