At least we now know what we must do to change. Can't have the rest of the world hating us, you know.

I wonder if he'd like some cheese to go with that whine? Perhaps some nice French Brie would do.

Most of the people who don't like US Republicans despise the Western World in general.

"The fact is that the world hates the US for its wealth, its success, its power. They hate the US into incoherence. The search for logic in anti-Americanism is fruitless. It is in the air the world breathes. Its roots are envy and self-loathing -- by peoples who, yearning for modernity but having failed at it, find their one satisfaction in despising modernity's great exemplar."Nothing in Sobhan's sad, untidy little sprawl of a piece says or offers anything substantial (or even remotely credible) by way of refutation of Krauthammer's sober analysis.
Imagine my shock.

So the rest of the world thought Beelzebubba was reassuring? The rest of the world must therefore love immorality.

"Before he sat down to perform, John remarked, "This night is about charity -- not washing your dirty political laundry. I love America, but if you want to know why the world hates America, I can give you two words: Dennis Miller." Well, heck, I hadn't heard that "Sir Elton" said that......HOW RUDE!

That explains why they burn the Republican flag and chant "Death to GOP".

Bill Clinton was hugely popular around the world because he embodied a face of the US that people found reassuring, and, not coincidentally, America's stature in the world was never higher than during his presidency. If the likes of Bill Clinton are what raises American stature in the world then I would prefer to remain despised by the rest of the world. If that is what earns their liking, then I'd rather have their contempt, thank you very much.
They can't bring themselves to admit that they want us to be more like them, and when we refuse to hand over our sovereignty to a passel of corrupt, morally bereft socialists, they say it's because we hate foreigners. We refuse to give up our sovereignty to corrupt, morally bereft socialists like they did, and they hate us for it.

Under Clinton people felt that the US saw itself as a part of the world community. Under Clinton people felt that the US respected world opinion and that it could potentially use its massive power for the common good. He actually gives away his entire lack of understanding in this sentence.
America was never under Clinton, or indeed under anyone. We don't have and never had kings or emperors.
The rest of the world believes in an elite that tells everyone else what to do. It may be an intellectual elite, as in Europe, or a religious elite, as in much of the Middle East. It may be a cultural elite, as in India. But the people are under the elite.
Our power and our prosperity depend on this special idea of what our country is. And this same idea makes them hate us and fear us because they cannot understand us and cannot control us.
They believe it is an accident of history that we have become the most powerful nation in history. We know better. They think they can make us feel guilty about our success, and thereby hand them the control over us that they want. But we do not feel that guilt, and thus we ignore their whines and howls.
Such people will never understand. Because if they understood, they would become one of us.

Having spoken with many of my European business contacts on the subject of anti-Americanism, they are (for the most part) in complete agreement that much of it comes from simple resentment of our success and freedom. Younger Europeans also tend to simply have a distrust of the capitalist system. Eurpoeans favor liberals Like Bill and Hillary because it is someone they feel comfortable with. They know the hypocrisy inherent in the liberal and can accept that as being normal, if not the ideal. American conservatives scare them because they don't believe people should be or can be trusted with true independence. Europeans believe people need to be slaves to the government.

"Under Clinton the Sellout, people felt that the US saw itself as the hind end kisser of the world community. Under Clinton the Sellout, people felt that the US could be caved to world opinion and socialist totalitarianism, and that it could potentially be used by same for its massive power for the common good of socialists world over at the expense of the American taxpayer and his protective Constitution."

Let me see if I understand Mr. Sobhan correctly. The contempt that we have for have for some people in the world is due to "arrogance" on our part, but the contempt that they have toward us is due to "a legitimate grievance" on their part. If we dislike them, it's our fault and we need to change. If they dislike us, it's our fault and we need to change.
What a load of smarmy pap!
