Now you got me daydreaming of a pro Bush bluegrass tour. What fun that would be! I'll dream along too...Rhonda Vincent is a must! And Mountain Heart, IIIrd Tyme Out, Blue Highway... How about Doyle Lawson and QS, Jesse McReynolds, Ralph Stanley, The Osborne Bros...The Lewis Family, the Cox family, the Whites, Nashville Bluegrass Band, Lonesome River Band, The Chapmans, Laurie Lewis, Dan Crary (Naw, probably too liberal!! LOL) Aubrey Haynie, Bryan Sutton. I'd even dream in Dolly Parton, that music is her roots!
It would be a GREAT fundraiser! and FUN too!!

Here are some of Eddie Vedder's most profound thoughts, from his website (kinda like Barbara Streisand's):
At the University of San Diego a few years ago, pro-lifers gathered, while pro-choicers chanted the above. Sides clashed and tension ran high. A banner equating pro-choice ideology with Nazism and Hitler was displayed. "Baby Killers," a little red stop sign said -- a sign held by a well-dressed 3-year-old who sat atop the shoulders of his upper-middle class father. The kid looked confused and frightened. The ominous presence of armed police on horseback would be enough to upset anyone. And I wondered how this child got pulled into this? I wondered how any of us got pulled into this. The fact is that those people handing down decisions on the abortion issue are not the ones who will have to live or die by it. Ten years old. That's the age my child would have been. And I would not be here in Glasgow. I wouldn't be in this band or traveling. And I wouldn't have seen the liberal ways in which other countries we have visited deal with this issue. I wouldn't have been asked to write this piece.
For Eddie, it's really all about abortion. I suspect the same is true for the rest of these "celebrities"--and for most of the 9 Dwarfs as well.

Yes, John Rutsey was a good R&R drummer, but it's hard to find anyone in any janre (sp?) that can hold a candle to Neil. I've been meaning to get those tapes he did, and even though I'm not a drummer, I'm sure that I'd be dazzled by him.
He's certainly the busiest drummer since Keith Moon! lol
Actually, I'd really like to hear him try some of the more subtle things, although he may have done them... I really haven't kept up with Rush for the last 2 decades (when I saw them play 3 times in less than a week in NY). I'm a huge fan of Bill Bruford and Stewart Copeland. Both of them can do more with silence than many drummers can do in a solo.

I forget exactly which day the election is (I believe Nov. 2, 2004) but I suggest that anyone living in relatively close proximity of a college/university leave multitudes of free beer, liquor around the campus or have pro-freedom frats/students host real ripping parties. College kids are apathetic enough as it is but throw in a hangover and they're downright lethargic.
One of many suggestions to come.

I hate to say it, but if partying with nude and drugged-up teenage girls makes one a pedophile, then the overwhelming majority of rock n' rollers from than era
Don Henley was 33 years old in 1980,that is old enough to know better. 12 or 16 years old, boys or girls, who cares?
It was wrong in 1980 and wrong now.
On an interesting side note Kiss leadman Gene Simmons is rumored to have "slain" 17 groupies in one evening.

It is true, but I think that entertainers are pressured by their higher ups, their must be enormous peer pressure on these guys, imagine if you are really, really hoping your next album gets good promo, because your down to you last ten mill, and your private jet is becoming expensive, and your promoter and record company executive, are big time liberals and start blowing the horn for folks to join them....I tend to think that is the case. It is sad, very sad. Those that pretend to like us, are just actors...

These "entertainers" opinions mean nothing because their audiences are generally too fried to make it to the polls and they basically have pretty short attention spans.

Gene Simmons is rumored to have "slain" 17 groupies in one evening. Never heard that rumor about Gene, but I know he was a wild man. I actually saw him trolling around near the perimeter of my high school (in L.A.) for girls in around 1982, a couple years after the Kiss phenomenon finally (and mercifully) died out. A scary-looking dude, for sure. Big dude.
He was interviewed by O'Reilly - or was it Hannity and Colmes? - a few months back and was asked about all the young girls he's been with over the years. He just smiled and said everything's been consensual. And when he was asked how he could be so sure the girls were of legal age, he told the truth -- he couldn't.
And he's a polically savvy (and smart) guy, not at all in the same league as the whining leftists mentioned on this thread -- he supports the WOT and Bush's handling of it. But he's no social conservative, obviously. .....Pretty much a guy who wants gov't out of his face (and his wallet) in all areas.

why doesn't anyone play "Fool for the City," instead of slow ride?
As for drummers, there are tons of drummers at least as good as Neal Pert. A drummer isn't measured by how many notes he can hit per second. If he were, Carl Parmer would still have Pert beat. (hey, a pun!) At least, imho.
There was a 16 y/o who played for a band called Style Council who played like a tornado, as well.
But Stuart Copland, who I think recorded one snare roll, was a groundbreaking drummer. Of course the list goes on and on.

I agree about those Dixie Chicks. They've got to depend now on a lefty audience who never were much into country music and don't like the word "chicks." Willie Nelson surprises me. He must not be "all there." How can you do that song with Toby Keith then come out for Dennis the Menace?
John Cougar Mellonhead and Spruce Bringstein are total hasbeens. Spruce's career would have ended already if it hadn't been for 9/11. I figure he must want more attacks on NY so he can write more stupid mopey mumbling tunes.

Did anyone have tickets to the Rockers unite to oust Clinton concert? I know they had one since Clinton lied to them, and gave away secrets to Communist China for campaign funds among other things. I know that upset the rockers and they wouldn't miss having a concert and ads against him too. They have principles you see.

The only one of those nutjobs with any talent is Lou Reed, and he ceased being relevant 25 years ago.
I used to be a huge Lou fan. Not anymore.

As for drummers, there are tons of drummers at least as good as Neal Pert. A drummer isn't measured by how many notes he can hit per second. If he were, Carl Parmer would still have Pert beat. (hey, a pun!) At least, imho. It's not so much speed, although Neil can be extremely fast. IMHO, Rush sort of redifined the "rythm section." For as long as I can remember, the bass and drums were sort of the backbone of the music. I feel that the Bill Bruford/Chris Squire team of Yes began to redefine it, but it was completely broken by Lee/Pert. While they still do "groove" together, in a lot of cases, the drums become more of an upfront instrument, rather than being used for fills. And his "style" and pacing is something else. There are fills he does that have always impressed me and I can only describe as "falling down the stairs! lol
On the other hand, I really like Carl Palmer too, and I don't think that there's anyone who's better or faster on the cow-bell! lol You're right, though. He can be extremely busy, as heard on Karn Evil #9.
There was a 16 y/o who played for a band called Style Council who played like a tornado, as well.
Not familiar with them, but I do remember another 16 y/o drummer that I first heard a long time ago... Simon Phillips.
Mark
PS We just liked Slow Ride better, and we couldn't play all the songs we knew.... They included about 5 more Aerosmith songs, the entire Led Zep III, IV, and Houses of the Holy albums, 4 or 5 Black Sabath songs, and others, including some Yes (not very good.... Just didn't work w/o a keyboardists!), Jimi Hendrix, and a lot of Rush. Nothing original, but we were just a bunch of high school kids, who liked turning it up LOUD! lol

Holy Smokes! I can't believe I forgot about this! Conservative music lovers MUST listen to "Goddess in the Doorway" by Mick Jagger. It is without a doubt the best release I have heard in some time by a founding father.
Absolutely a crowning jewel, musically and philosphically. Guest artists include Lenny Kravitz, Joe Perry, Pete Townsend... who else?
Anyway, once you get your head around the message, if you're like me, you might never take it out of the player.
All I can say is, I got satisfaction.
