LONDON (Reuters) - At least four and possibly as many as eight members of a Spanish intelligence team were killed on Saturday in an attack on their convoy south of Baghdad, a reporter from Britain's Sky News television said.
David Bowden said in a report from Baghdad after returning from the scene that he saw four bodies and that locals said eight were killed in total and another two people taken prisoner. Spanish officials said in Madrid an eight-strong team had been attacked and it was unclear how many were hurt.
"We were actually driving from the town of Hilla, which is just south of Baghdad, and we saw these men lying dead on the floor (ground) by the side of the road after the ambush," Bowden said.
"We were told by locals there that...about 30 minutes before they'd attacked a convoy of three vehicles. They pulled the people out of the vehicles. They told us that in fact they'd killed eight people and they'd captured two others.
"I only saw with my own eyes four dead bodies on the road.
"We filmed for a couple of minutes and then we became the focus of the mob's attention. They were shouting praise to Saddam (Hussein) and we disappeared pretty quickly."

That is BAD.....very bad if true!Maybe not. At least they're taking prisoners instead of just killing everyone. What is done with their prisoners may be another story entirely.

It's no prob. Many of us here have a self-induced personality disorder called being fairly intelligent.
We acquire this disorder by reading and paying attention to the world around us. We exacerbate the condition by thinking and sharing our thoughts.
Obvious signs of this condition are the formation of opinions.
The major negative side effect is that we are often confronted with folks who don't realize our true genius. I can't tell you how many times this has happened to me....
Luckily, through humor theraphy, we can eventually come to terms with the fact that though we are the smartest person in the room, the other folks probably aren't that bad.
As an aside, I( find this condition is most common in males, like myself. It occurs less frequently in the female of the species, but when this does occur, the effects are far more pronounced and dangerous.

Exactly. That is the strategy. Hit the weak spot of the occupation forces and make them leave. There is way more oppostion to troop deployment in Spain, Italy and Poland than there is in the US. The US must replace them with its own troops/providers.
The US will try to replace the coalition troops with Iraqis, but that most likely will fail. The Iraqis will simply take the money from the US and look the other way when the guerrillas attack. The NYT posted today that Iraqi police have been helping the guerrillas.
The attacks on the UN, Red Cross, Iatlian HQs and now Spanish intel officers only seem to reinforce what you have said.

You seemed to be more laid back with your genius compared to others.

Well, it ain't been easy but we struggle on.
Ya'll get this Iraq thing sorted out. Hopefully we can get this solved before tomorrows games.
Besides, being an expert in all things, I figure it is only a matter of time before Dubya reads one of my post on FreeRepublic and decides to call me up for some advice.
So yall take care and come up with the plan and I'll put in a good word for ya.

So Arabs are going to mount an invasion of America? Last al-Qaeda invasion against us was mounted using the latest in box cutter technology
It made the intention cristal clear - distruction of America by all means. And yes, even these simple tools caused enourmous destruction. You just gave a very strong argument in support of fighting the war on their soil. Terorist supporting governments should be completely destroyed and thier nations - rebuilt. There is NO "it can't be done". We will do it or the freedom and Christian spirit will be no more. Period. Russia fell under communism by terror. There should be no delusion, it's a life and death business and spearing a dime today will cost everything tomorrow. We can't take any chances. It had to be done earlier, but instead Clintoon opted for blowjobs and a war in support of AlQueda infested Kosovo!

You are st*pid. I said Islam collapsed and that it revived again this century thanks to the West's trade with Islam-especially with Suadi Arabia.
West trade does not mean government trade or support. There is trade wherever there is SOMETHING to trade. Your is totalitarian government sanctioned trade (or thinking). If Islam can use the power it gets from trade constructively it will survive, if not - it will be wiped out. Better now than tomorrow. You seem to have no point in this discussion. The war is led at the right time at the right place with the right means. No war is a cakewalk, but consequences of NOT fighting will be HORENDOUS.

Ask the Marine who wrote that article. He knows more about it than you or me.
This statement does not add any credibility to your words. Actually it takes away a lot of it. There is a vast number of Marines and they do not think the same (nor do they have the same education). You have never provided any clear argument against the war in Iraq. It's all wishy-washy insinuations. Do you have any clear idea about anything at all or just lengthy exserpts from unrelated sources?

Instead of just calling him names, why don't you read Destro's post #59 which I think lays out a good strategy for dealing with the Islamists.
I happen to agree with it, as do many informed and thoughtful people who are neither anti-semites or democrats. Or even Buchananites, although I see nothing wrong with that.

Your Stalinist plan is just that. A rushed out macho grande personal histeria. If implemented it would end just like all Stalinst plans. Just trust Bush for now. He is no Emperor and has to deal with realities. There are finer points in politics that are a bit elusive. Don't be so scared of Islam, we will change it - without dragging ourselves down like Stalin did.

And only the UN and the Red Cross have turned tail and run. But the Left still insists we turn control in Iraq over to the UN. Sheesh, will those appeasers never learn!

Don't be so scared of Islam, we will change it - Islam has been in conflict with the West since the Moors invaded France in the 8th century
There ain't no sign of changing it yet.
In fact, Islam is becoming more fundamentalist, not less.
Your starry-eyed optimism is wildly misplaced.

What is done with their prisoners may be another story entirely. Remember Rumsfeld gloating over the mass deaths of his prisoners in Afghanistan? One of the reasons why I was against all that, at the time, was because eventually our own people will be taken prisoner. If they are declared "illegal combatants" their situation will be very hard.
To: singsong
Actually this neo-con plan of world revolution is Trotsykite in origin. Stalinist would be that you would occupy and convert people to your way of thought.
I want to isolate and not deal with them. Let their own system drag them down.

AP---> "Footage shot by Sky News shortly after the attack showed a crowd of about a dozen men gathered around the bodies, chanting: "We sacrifice our souls and blood for you, oh Saddam." One young man could be seen planting his foot on one of the bodies while another kicked it. Ya' know. I'm about to lose my cool. Kill them all and let Allah sort 'em out is getting easier to say every day. God bless their souls and families.
