ALBANY - The head of the state Lobbying Commission has filed a formal complaint accusing one of Attorney General Eliot Spitzer's deputies of hindering the panel's case against the New York Civil Liberties Union - and contributing to the advocacy group.

Why didn't the ACLU take on this case? (/sarcasm) If the civil liberties types observed a conservative NRA donor handling a case against the NRA, the CLU'ers would be spouting moral outrage up the kazoo.
I did NOT know this!!! Please see my comments on your other thread... This could easily go to "motivation" as well as political ambition that embarrasses the Bush Administration's SEC!!!
Which could easily, in turn, create a competitive "witch hunt" which, in turn, could lead to headline hungry political news sites who have a few members on either "the left" or "the right" who delight is scarfing up compounding sensational overstated HEADLINES!!!
In the end, if carried to it's typical conclusion, all the "conclusion jumpers" could cause overkill and hurt the very investors who are holding on, trying to recoup some of their historic losses of the last three years!!! Ironic, isn't it???

I have no problem with Elliot doing his job and maybe there is more than just his suspicions at work here, but I know how easy it is to "roll" a corporation that deals in public trust!!! They are an easy "mark" for those both ambitious and unscrupulous.
What I am having a problem with is believing these activities are as systemic as portrayed in the media. Each story tells the new headline and the suspect behavior, then proceeds to list all previous suspect companies in a compounding/snowballing perception building designed to almost panic patrons away from the whole industry.
Don't misunderstand. I'm not starting to try to behead the messenger, Mr. Spitzer, but I'm suspicious of the amplifiers (media) and their public address system yelling "fire in a crowded room!"
It seems to me that something a little stranger than usual is at work here and all of us who naturally distrust authority figures are easy "marks," too. I find the references to the Guillotine, above, fitting into some of my other comments on "The French Revolution" which was every bit as revolting and excessive as the current French foreign policy!!!
Spitzer is a world-class, rank opportunist. He will do whatever is necessary to achieve his ambitions.
If Spitzer thinks hating Hil will get him elected, he'll hate Hil. If he thinks he has to kiss her butt in Macy's window to get elected, he'll do that.
As to his relationship with Rudy, you'll get a glimpse of that in the Merrill Lynch piece I posted to you.
