BAGHDAD, Iraq - One of the chief U.S. weapons in the battle to win Iraqi hearts and minds is Al-Iraqiya - a Pentagon-funded TV station with an optimistic, pro-American slant.
Announcers on Al-Iraqiya, which reaches 85 percent of Iraqis, decry the guerrillas attacking U.S. military and Iraqi civilian targets as "terrorists."
Problem is, those Iraqis fortunate enough to have satellite dishes consider Al-Iraqiya stodgy and slow on breaking news. They prefer Al-Jazeera and Al-Arabiya, the flashy Gulf-based stations where anti-American fighters are branded "resisters."

Well, it's about time!
The Iraqis need to hear something else, besides the vicious anti-US propaganda.
I hope they will improve the US station to get more Iraqis to listen to it -- but it's a step in the right direction.

They should have had that ready to go on the air as the troops crossed the boarder from going into Iraq. Someone in the Pentagon blew it - big time.

They really do need a FOX news crew over there, especially someone from their graphics department. As to the talent, they ought to consider getting some of the people who are operating the Iranian stations out of California. Surely there are some talented Iraqis in the US media who could help.
They also need a show with various Iraqis debating their future. Get a bunch of ideas flowing, then have a call in session where the Iraqi people get to express their views.

The power of the TV should have been ready to implement much sooner. It is so important to give Iraqis a voice and positive messages.

If they had a call in show it would be the most popular thing in town. As a matter of fact, they could have a panel to discuss the merits of some of the calls. It would be totally thrilling to the Iraqis.
