I have seen her shoot an apple at 75ft with the first round out of a pistol that she has never seen before.
There is a purpose behind training children to be ready for life rather than shielding them from it.

You're doing the right thing, Sir.
I started shooting at about 6 years old; my kids will start learning as soon as they can hold firearm w/o me fearing they will drop it.
Your children (and mine) will never be at the mercy of a bigger, stronger adult.
