PRESS RELEASE
SOLDIERS DELIVER GIFTS TO KUTIIBA SCHOOL
DESKS, chairs and stationery have been donated to a school in Kutiiba by students in Germany with a little help from the British Army.
Soldiers from 17 Battery, 26 Regiment Royal Artillery delivered the furniture on Monday after receiving the donation from the Haig school in Germany, where the unit is normally based.
After being mobbed by a crowd of around 200 delighted children, the troops distributed chocolate and water while the equipment was unloaded.
Lance-Bombardier Kelly Evans (21) said the delivery had been an emotional experience.
Its great to be able to deliver items from one school to another which will be useful for all those in the future, she said. There seemed such desperation in some of the people, there simply was not enough to give everyone something.
Sergeant Mat Baker (33) said he knew the donations had gone somewhere it was really needed.
The children from Haig school should be pleased to know their old furniture has gone to a good school, where it is much needed and greatly received, he said.

PRESS RELEASE
COALITION REBUILDS DAMAGED SCHOOL
The primary school in Al Muthanna has been officially re-opened after it was
extensively renovated with the help of British troops.
The school caters for 400 children of both sexes, aged between 6 and 12. It had
been seriously neglected during the previous regime, and was little more than a
shell before the project began.
The Coalition invested $22,000 in the project, which was overseen by soldiers from the Recce Company of 1 Battalion The Royal Scots. Eight classrooms were replaced, as well as toilet facilities and offices.
The project took 40 days to complete. Another four classrooms and a toilet block
are now planned to allow the school to teach even more children.

Ragtime Cowgirl, thanks for posting the story...especially the pictures.
The area looks like just about the same situation as a photo I got at the school that
got my donated items.
Like the Brit soldier said, my only "downer" feeling was that what I was sending
would help out just a incredibly small number of kids, most of whom are burning to
have school in a new, free Iraq.

The smiles on the children's faces say it all....they're grateful for what the Coalition forces are doing for the country.
And the gifts being donated from folks around the world are obviously appreciated.
