The democrat party as a viable force is now a question of "when" it will end, not "if".

I actually would differ with your post, slightly.

The ultra lieberal Democrat party as we know it as a viable force is now a question of "when" it will end, not "if".

There have been alot of negative consequences of the social programs instituted by FDR and LBJ, but there were also alot of people who labeled themselves Democrats responding to real problems who instituted those programs with sincere attempts to fix real problems. We are all subject to unintended consequences.

The biggest "social program" legislation, the civil rights laws implemented in the 60s, were all put forward by and supported by Republicans. The lieberals conveniently omit that from their recitations of history. A Democrat, Daniel Patrick Moynihan (as liberal and partisan a Democrat as they come) was one of the few people who accurately pointed out the destructive affects of the welfare state on poor, particularly black, families. The Republicans who agreed with him are universally labeled as racists for holding to honest principles of supporting or opposing programs based on their real world consequences as opposed to their advertised intent.

What the dims have become now, particularly under the clintonistas and the 9 dwarves, is a party that hates America and hates freedom.

I call myself a conservative, but I define that as a cynical liberal. I believe in the stated liberal ideals (personal freedom, caring for the needy, equal treatment for all, regardless of race, sex, etc.) but I just don't believe for a minute that Teddy Kennedy, Billary, tommyboy, et al, are out for anyone but themselves. I want to solve the problems facing my fellow Americans (as well as other people in the world) but I can now easily say that the government programs that have been foisted off on us aren't the answer.

We have made solemn commitments, like it or not, to help the elderly and poor who need it, so we can't just scrap Social Security and Medicare, no matter how satisfying that might be. We can expect, however, that the representatives we elect will work at fixing the problems, not just taking more of our money to bribe poor and old people to vote for them.

I expect real liberals and democrats to take back the party from the leftist/socialists and actually become a proud force in America again. I might just consider voting for one of them again, were that to happen.

Halleluljia! Someone else knows. Well said.

Unfortunately, that won't happen in our lifetimes; it took a mere thirty plus years for the Socialists to fully subvert the Democrats and severely infect the Republicans -- I doubt (barring another civil insurrection) it will occur before the 22nd Century.
