The Bush family saga (the Neil Bush mess)
UPI ^ | November 25th, 2003

WASHINGTON, Nov. 26 (UPI) -- A Texas court has been asked to order the younger brother of President George W. Bush to give a new sample for DNA testing in a paternity-related defamation suit, sources told United Press International Wednesday.

The request for the new sample from Neil Bush, filed on behalf of Sharon Bush, was slated to be heard in Houston's Harris County Civil Court on Dec. 9.

"We require he be forced to give a sample under court supervision," David Berg, attorney for Sharon Bush, told United Press International. "He voluntarily did it before we got to court but not under court supervision. It was a good first step, but we want it under court supervised conditions."

Sharon Bush is being sued for defamation by Robert Andrews, a business associate of Neil Bush, who claims she defamed his 2-year-old son by publicly saying the boy was fathered by Neil Bush.

Maria Andrews, now divorced from her husband, is currently living in Paris with the child. Bush has said he intends to marry the woman following his divorce from Sharon Bush last spring. It was unclear if Neil would join her for the Thanksgiving holiday or remain in the United States.

Neil Bush did not return UPI's calls for comment by publication time Wednesday.

In a deposition given in the divorce case in March, a month before his divorce from Sharon, the president's 48-year-old sibling detailed financial relationships with firms in Taiwan and China and admitted to having had sex on several occasions in years past with unidentified women who simply came to his hotel door in Thailand and Hong Kong.

"It is dead on," said a source who read the leaked transcript, which has not been made public record.

Under the divorce settlement with Sharon, Bush reportedly pays about $1,500 per month in child support payments to Sharon and gives her $30,000 a year in alimony for four years.

The Bushes have three children.

Sharon bought the family home, valued at $850,000, from Neil the exact sum Andrews is suing her for.

The same day she closed on the house, Andrews sued her. In addition to the money for questioning the child's lineage, he also asked for any royalties she may earn from any book about the case.

Sharon had earlier been reported as saying she intended to write a tell-all book about her marriage and the Bush family.

"We consider it (the suit) vindictive and an attempt to shut her up," Berg said. "You'd have to be blind not to understand the message when they sued her on the same day that she closed on the house for the same amount of money, an identical amount.

"They are sending a message ... It sounds like Andrews is a stalking horse for Bush."

In 1990, Neil Bush paid a $50,000 fine and was banned from banking activities for his role in the mismanagement of Silverado Savings and Loan in Denver. The management of the Silverado was sued in the savings and loan scandal by the Resolution Trust Corporation.

Neil Bush met Sharon in 1980 in New Hampshire during his father's unsuccessful bid to capture the Republican nomination for the presidency. They had three children together and were married 23 years.

The Andrews were married 14 years and divorced in October 2002. Neil and Maria are reported to have met several years ago while she was working as a volunteer for his mother, Barbara Bush.

Another area of the transcript deals with Bush's contract with one of China's major semiconductor firms, Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corp. of Shanghai. The giant conglomerate, one of mainland China's major firms, is backed by Jiang Mianheng, the son of former Chinese President Jiang Zemin. The contract is expected to bring Bush $2 million in stock over five years.

Brown seemed incredulous as to why Grace would retain Bush. "You have absolutely no educational background in semiconductors do you?" he asked in the March 4 deposition.

"That's correct, " Bush responded.

"And you have absolutely over the last 10, 15, 20 years not a lot of demonstrable business experience that would bring about a company investing $2 million in you, " Brown asked.

"I personally would object to the assumption that they're investing $2 million in me, " Bush answered.

Earlier this month, Taiwan's leader Chen Shui-bian denied reports that he paid $1 million for a 30-minute meeting with Neil Bush in New York. The two did meet, according to Taiwanese officials.

Bush signed the deal with Grace in August 2002. He said he had not received any stock from the company. Bush said he was invited to join Grace by Winston Wong, a co-founder of the company, the son of Wang Yung-ching, the chairman of Taiwan's largest business group, Formosa Plastics Corp. Bush never mentioned in the deposition that Grace had backers from both Taiwan and the Republic of China.

Bush said that Wong was an investor in Ignite! Learning, an educational firm based in Austin, Texas that Bush formed in 2000. The company provides Internet-based learning programs for schools and other groups.

Sharon, in a July interview with KHOU television in Texas, said she had never expected a divorce from her husband. "It was totally out of the blue," she said.

She said she learned that her husband wanted to end their marriage in an e-mail he sent her.

"Our marriage has been broken. It's loveless. And there is nothing left to it," he said in a court deposition.

Does every President have a designated idiot brother?

Bush brother tells of sex adventures and tangled deals

Neil Bush, the younger brother of President George W Bush, was promised $2 million (£1.2 million) in a business deal with a firm backed by the son of a former Chinese president, it emerged yesterday.

In a deposition that could prove embarrassing to the White House, Mr Bush shed light on the usually closed and frequently lucrative world of deal-making in China.

He also admitted a series of sexual adventures while on trips to Thailand and Hong Kong.

The details of business deals and his complicated private life were recorded in March, when Mr Bush was questioned by divorce lawyers for his now ex-wife Sharon. They were divorced in April but the legal wrangling continues and the papers were made public yesterday.

Mr Bush, 48, was questioned about a contract with Grace Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, a firm backed by Jiang Mianheng, the son of former President Jiang Zemin, that would pay him $2 million in stock over five years.

Marshall Davis Brown, Mrs Bush's lawyer, asked Mr Bush why the firm would want his services and at such a price given he had no expertise in the semiconductor business.

"You have absolutely no educational background in semiconductors do you?" he asked.

"That's correct," Mr Bush replied.

"And you have absolutely, over the last 10, 15, 20 years, not a lot of demonstrable business experience that would bring about a company investing $2 million in you?"
"I personally would object to the assumption that they're investing $2 million in me," said Mr Bush, who went on to say that he was an experienced businessman and had worked in Asia for many years.

Mr Bush said he had not yet received any stock from Grace, whose deal was signed in August 2002. He said he is meant to consult for the company and be on the board of directors.

The details will compound Mr Bush's reputation for using his family's name to gain backing for his businesses and also further his record as the family's prime source of potential embarrassment for his elder brother in the Oval Office.

The third of five children of former President George Bush and his wife, Barbara, he was linked to a business controversy in 1988 when he was director of Silverado Savings and Loan, a Colorado bank that collapsed at a cost to taxpayers of $1 billion.

Over the past few years he has travelled widely to the Middle East and Asia, two regions where his father has considerable connections and influence. He says he makes courtesy visits and denies that he is seeking investors for his firm.

In December 2001 President Jiang threw a private dinner for him in Beijing. One witness said that Mr Jiang even serenaded him with a military song.

Mr Bush and his wife divorced in April after a 23-year marriage but the wrangling continues.

Mr Bush admitted in his deposition that he had slept with other women on trips to Asia. The women, he said, knocked on his door and entered. He said he did not know if they were prostitutes because they did not ask for money.

He said he joined the board of Grace at the request of Winston Wang, a co-founder of the firm, who, he said, is an investor in his educational software business in Austin, Texas. Mr Bush never mentioned Jiang Mianheng.

He was also questioned about other well-paid business ventures. He said he was co-chairman of Crest Investment Corporation, and that for working an average of three to four hours a week, he received $15,000 every three months.

He said he provided "miscellaneous consulting services" for Crest.

"Such as?" asked Mr Brown.

"Such as answering phone calls when Jamail Daniel, the other co-chairman, called and asked for advice," Mr Bush said.

How fortuitous for the ex-Mrs. Neil Bush that her little "tell all" is coming at this time? What better timing then right before a presidential election to air her dirty linen to the public and write a tell all book about the Bushs. Because that's what this is all leading up to.

Expect some interesting observations on the Bush clan..and let me guess..they are not what they seem.

What's that about "hell hath no fury like a woman scorned"? I expect the Bushes had better brace for the storm known as Hurrican Sharon before it hits landfall. It promises to try to whip itself up into a category 4 storm.

Look for someone (guess) to try and make some political hay with the former Mrs. Bush's expose of the inner workings of the Bushies. Coming in weekly sequels sometime right before the next presidential election.

Previews at 10 to be carried on all the networks.

Women knocked on Neil's door and he did not know they were and yet he had sex with them? Sounds like a total moron.

Unless George W. was somehow involved, which I surely don't believe, this will have NO significant impact on the forthcoming election. The Democrats have been eager for the sexual deviant votes. And one can not be held responsible for the actions of ones relatives unless he defends the behavior. Friends one choses but over relatives we've no choice.

What, do you think the blackmail and bribery stopped, magically, at Neil? I'm not arguing that Neil's a "crown of creation" -- but that the folks who set dim bulb Neil up so easily would tailor their snare for the other brothers -- and for many other men of "power", who testify in mighty suits before Congress on issues like MFN, WTO, free trade, etc., etc.

I wouldn't be throwing the baby out with the bathwater here. The baby being who, why and how many others. The bathwater being the obvious attempt to besmirch Dubya and Jeb, and their family.

The Communist Chinese government seems to have gotten access to too many computers and too many leaders or their families in the past few administrations. It doesn't make sense that we are so gung-ho on building up their economy at the expense of the American people.

Not enough coffee or something, but I'm sooo confused about this. Ok, we have Mr. and Mrs. Bush, and Mr. and Mrs. Andrews. Mrs. B had a child while still married to Mr. B but it's suspected the child is Mr. A's? Mrs. B for some reason is now claiming it's Mr. B's so Mr. A is suing Mrs. B? On the flip side, Mr. B and Mrs. A also had a fling and are planning to get married at some point?

It's happy to see tenative steps being taken to defend our trade, with China. Maybe we can get them to buy Rockefeller Center, etc. while the bubble is up.

People get upset -- at authority, fomenting rebellion -- when currency is radically devalued, but not so when RE is devalued, or stocks.

Maybe the best thing would be to herd all that foreign debt holdings into corporation stocks and bonds and real estate, thereby being able to deflate it. Therefore I believe I must become a stock market cheerleader. Maybe, in my dreams.
