Forty MKs (members of Knesset) from ruling coalition factions have signed a petition calling on Prime Minister Ariel Sharon and Minister of Defense Shaul Mofaz to deal with the murderers of former Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi as they would "any other ticking bombs."
Ze'evi, known by the nickname of Gandhi, was shot dead by Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine gunmen on October 17, 2001, at Jerusalem's Hyatt Hotel.
The petition, initiated by the National Union party, comes in the wake of Palestinian Prime Minister Ahmed Qurei's recent visit to the Jericho jail where Ze'evi's murderers are imprisoned.
Ze'evi's killers are currently being held by the Palestinian Authority in the Jericho jail in accordance with a deal whereby the IDF lifted its siege of the PA Chairman Yasser Arafat's Mukata headquarters in Ramallah. In return, Arafat agreed to incarcerate six Palestinian fugitives, including the two killers, PFLP leader Ahmed Sa'adat, and Fuad Shubaki, the man who financed the attempted smuggling of the Karine A arms vessel into the Gaza Strip and terrorist operations.
According to the Wednesday's petition, Qurei's visit is a violation of the agreement with Israel.
