I wonder what these civilians were doing in Laos.

Cheep drugs would be the first thought. Lots of hippie types made their way to S.E. Asia back then.

I would suppose that Dean - the presidential candidate - put the pressure on. How convenient to have a brother with full military honors to showcase how a candidate too has sacrificed.

In truth - it shows that Dean cares about Dean and Dean's grab for power no matter how he has to get it. If it means fooling the dull populace, so be it. This is an indication of how he would lead. Dean counts - nothing else. The world is merely the stage for Dean.

Sort of the same gross concern for self above all others shown by Gore, Clinton and most democrats.

Ditto. This is outrageous and an insult to those soldiers who risk their lives to protect us.

If they want to use our money to do this, they have an obligation to let us know why he deserves this treatment

Not if he really was a secret agent man type. If he was, there may just be silence on the issue. I sort of doubt that he was, but until I know for sure, then I will not dishonor the dead over it.

Kaisersrsic is right. There are documented cases of Americans who went to Southeast asia back then to fight against American troops and were killed either by the communists a or our troops. I wonder if that's the case here.

How much influence could Howard Dean possibly have in the Pentagon?

There are many democrats in the military and the Pentagon. This does not in the least prove that the man was CIA. It proves that the Dean campaign has some high level supporters.

Have you noticed how Dean does not in the least give off an aura of warmth? He appears extremely cold and calculating. He tends to scare me. I would not want such a man in control of my government and my future.

How would you like a man like Dean with control of the "buttons"? How would you like a man like Dean with the defense of you and your family?

Not me - I have trust in Bush and would never - ever - put my defense in the hands of a democrat.

What are you saying? Are you trying to say that this should be overlooked because it is a family matter?

If so, it looks like you are overlooking the abuse of power and connections. How about the fact that this will put additoinal stress on families of REAL military men who lost their lives. JPAC's duty is not to search for and recover civilian remains. It is to recover Soldier's remains. If they happen across civilian remains, fine - and let the families pay for their return. In no way should Dean's family come before the families of our lost soldiers. Dean should be ashamed of himself - but he is a RAT - thus having no moral fiber.

Nothing about this Dean is clean - and this case just prooves his being a rotten turd.

Good points and a strong argument.

I just didn't like it when the left bashed the Bush family over their twin daughters Minor in Possession matter and I won't be a part of bashing Dean on this matter.

Show me that Dean pulled strings or was personally involved in getting his brother special treatment and I will join you. For all we know, the military did this by itself.

"I would suppose that Dean - the presidential candidate - put the pressure on."
What pressure does Dean have to apply - being the former gov. of a small state? There would seem to be a need for pressure from somewhere else to have the military cave. The article gives no clue as to where the pressure is coming from. What do you base your knowledge on?

Just sitting back to see this unfold. My guess is that some of the POW-MIA groups are going to raise a stink about this until information is shared with the public.

Thats where I am also. If there is some small chance he died in service then I have to know for sure. I would feel really bad if I went off on this and then found out later that he did actually die in service.

Number one...someone in the government (hint: the Bush Adminstration itself)...pushed the priority of recovery (the team wouldn't have done it). If this is true...then someone in the adminstration needs to be fired.

Number two...whoever agreed to military honors...again...was a member of the current adminstration (hint: the Bush staff). This individual needs to be fired as well.

This immature effort to paint the dead Dean and the Democratic Dean in a bad light...is really in poor judgement and ranks with the Hillery adminstration. I'm not going to say GW himself did this...but one of the members of his staff is acting awful stupid.

The fact that the Aussie is receiving military honors as well lends credence to the assumed CIA connection. However, bumping up their priority ahead of other persons remains is a little grating.

Full Military honors for Dean's brother and his Australian comrade????
Bumped ahead of those who died fighting for their country??
Hey Rummie between the head hunting of Col. West and putting down real soldiers over
commie sympathizing tourists...
This cant be doing a whole lot for morale..of the people doing the fighting or their loved ones
or those of us who are combat vets who fought alongside those you allowed shunted aside for a politican's brother and his comrade...
