That's sounds great, but 1000 packets doesn't seems like very much. I guess one serving for each of 1000 soldiers? Am I greedy to think they could send 100,000 packets?

That should help warm their tum tums prior to those chilly morning patrols. I hope that it was a LOT of oatmeal.
Very glad to hear that Quaker Oats stepped up to the plate to assist our guys and gals over there.
Ya know, that sounds good for breakfast.
To: Coop
I like the Old Fashioned Oats. It takes alot longer to make but it is worth it. IMHO...OH...and make sure to add raisins.
Now the preaching, has everyone gotten a package of goodies sent off to our brave men and women in the military? It really does make you feel good, you get more out of it than they do and it just takes a little time.
To: Coop
Nice to see that Quaker is taking care of the 'regular' soldiers...

( I hope the Democrats keep listening to the Clintons. So far, it's been great for us.)

Thanks, nice work Coop

can I ask a stupid question - ?
Are the armed services allowing civi's to send care packages to service men (& women) - even if they aren't relatives
and where do you send it ?
To: Revelation 911
Not a stupid question at all. Thanks for asking! They're not allowing packages to go to "Any Service Member" like they did in the past. So it takes a bit of an effort to locate someone sometimes. However, we have a nice resource linked in my Post #7. I'll also ping you to that thread.

Great post. Thanks, Coop. ( :~~~~~~~~~~
CEDAR RAPIDS More than 1,000 packets of instant oatmeal are on their way to an Iowa soldier's unit in Afghanistan after he wrote home saying he missed his favorite breakfast cereal.

Good for you, makes you feel good doesn't it?
To: PeteFromMontana
I've been doing this since they first deployed, it's a great feeling to know that you made someones day with such a simple gesture.
Hint for those sending cookies, milk is a rarity over there, Yahoo (sp) makes a bottled chocolate milk product that needs no refrigeration until opened but the bottles are pretty much single serve and just right for dunkin cookies :)

In all my time in, I never once saw a package addressed to "any soldier", they must have got scarfed up by the REMF's!
Cookies are nice but don't usually travel very well. Hard candies (Jolly Ranchers are a favorite) are good, and Pringles (Sour Cream & Onion, followed closely by Barbeque) are high-demand item. Beef jerky, kool-aid, chewing gum are nice too. Anything that stores well, durable and high calorie is the way to go.
Real coffee and ciggies won't hurt either.
To: PeteFromMontana
Yep, but I never even thought about sending oatmeal. What a great idea. I keep asking my guys what they want and all they will tell me is "Whatever you send is great!" BIG HELP!
To: Freedom4US
The trick to shipping homemade cookies is to either get a food sealer, or wrap in plastic wrap, pack them in a coffee can with as many as will fit without movement and use popped popcorn or hard candies as a filler and tape the lid. Havent had any yet that have ended up as crumbs. :)

Didn't Quaker Oats used to have the ad line "shot from guns" to describe their product? How fitting they send supplies to the troops - job well done. Especially since Quakers are pacifists.

My dad was in the USAAF from 39-45..he was based in Iceland in 41...flying the anti-sub missions...actually, for detection..since they weren't allowed to attack...nothing to do up there on the ice except write letters...so they wrote to everyone..my dad was from NYC..his favorite desert was the Horn and Hardart Lemon Meringue Pie..so he wrote to them, saying how much he missed them...6 weeks later, a crate arrives in Rejkavi..6 pies packed in dry ice..with a note from the president of H&H hoping he enjoyed them, and adding that it was my dad's "good luck?" that he wsn't based in the tropic that made this possible....
