" A growing economy and steadfast foreign policy, despite rough patches, is why the Republican base will hold firm in 2004 and not disintegrate as it did for Bush’s father in ’92. "

Inaccurate, Ross Perot siphoned a lot of support from Bush. I seem to recall polls claiming that a majority of perot voters would have otherwise voted for bush.

I think the same is possible of the 96 election.

"Finally, Dowd might choose to believe that Bush did nothing on his trip except flub a toast with Queen Elizabeth and have a nonalcoholic beer at a pub in Tony Blair’s hometown"

This would fit Mz Dowdy's valley girl view of world matters. A Presidential visit in such extraordinary times is designed to have personal discussions with other leaders that can't left to phone calls, E-mails, or even ambassadors. These types of visits are designed to nail down any misunderstandings and make sure both countries are: in agreement with major policy matters, informed of pending strategic moves, advised of mutual threats. There could be any number of reasons for such a visit, but stupid Dowdy wouldn't understand the gravity of these visits.

Bush is chancing the loss of conservative activists with liberal spending. I will spend my political dollars and talents elsewhere. I will vote for Bush, and expect him to win in a landslide, but at the expense of conservatives holding their noses. We are tepid supporters, and only because of the War on Terror and measly tax cuts.

Bush's domestic policy is a disgrace. The Republican Party has become the big spenders. Shame on you. I'm not sending any more money to that party. I quit. I'll fund and work for conservatives, who are rare cats now.

Congratulations. Pomeroy, Conrad and Dorgan are looking for a go-getter just like you.

It was gun owners who cost Bush Sr the election, although the tax thing certainly didn't help.

I'm expecting big things from Bush on the Medicare/Social Security front. He is a big picture, take action President and this is almost certainly the first of many steps toward privatization of both programs.

The growing number of [Democratic] realists, at both the local and national levels, who’ve already written off the South in the 2004 quest to send President Bush back to Crawford, TX, are humming Jim Morrison’s ominous words from the late 1960s:

(humming) "This is the end. . ."

Bush will likely defeat his Democratic challenger by a slender margin...

I dunno......I kinda smell a landslide in '04--on all fronts.

What could it be?

Notice also how the terrorists are cooperating with the libs by not attacking the US but only overseas. The murderers think the American public will forget 9-11 and take the libs attitude: "They just don't get it". The libs have not discovered the sheeple are getting "internet educated" and are starting to think for themselves.

Unfortunately, conservatives are in the same old dilemma again as we were in 2000. I would love to support a Libertarian or Constitution party candidate, but deep down I know their chances of winning are fat and slim.

Totally agree with you, though. Bush's domestic policies absolutely suck.

...are humming Jim Morrison’s ominous words from the late 1960s: "Strange days have found us/Strange days have tracked us down/They’re going to destroy/Our casual joys."

I'd rather they be singing this Morrison gem:

This is the end
Beautiful friend
This is the end
My only friend, the end

Of our elaborate plans, the end
Of everything that stands, the end
No safety or surprise, the end
I'll never look into your eyes...again

Can you picture what will be
So limitless and free
Desperately in need...of some...stranger's hand
In a...desperate land

Lost in a Roman...wilderness of pain
And all the children are insane
All the children are insane
Waiting for the summer rain, yeah
