Given that she was in Grand Forks ND and her boyfriend was in the Twin Cities (Minneapolis-St. Paul MN) when she called him and that cell phone records are easily accessible, I'd say you're wrong on your theory that the boyfriend did it.

I'm often wrong, but I just can't help it when I read about something happening in real life that sounds like it came from a soap opera. Know what I mean?

Someone was on the other end of the phone. I'm sure the cops are checking the boyfriend's alibi.

Presto, cell phone records give him an alibi. It's not as if every cellphone call is recorded so you can voiceprint the caller after the fact.
The scenario outlined sounds too much like a made-for-TV movie to be 100% believable.

I'll second that, Minneapolis is a long way from Grand Forks.
