New York Mayor Pops Over To Jerusalem
16:03 Nov 24, '03 / 29 Cheshvan 5764
Mayor Michael Bloomberg of New York and his 95-year-old mother Charlotte have arrived in Israel for a visit of a few hours. In honor of Charlotte's birthday, the family has donated an unspecified sum to build another three stories for what will be known as the Charlotte R. Bloomberg Mother and Child Center in Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem. The mayor and his mother will take part in the inauguration ceremony.
"This is really some story," said journalist Uri Dan. "For Charlotte, who was long involved in the Hadassah Women's Organization, this is the best birthday present: Her son, the mayor, brings her to Israel for a few hours, in honor of her fast-approaching 95th birthday, in honor of the expansion of a mother-and-child department in Hadassah." Mayor Bloomberg's sister Marjorie Tiven, head of New York City's United Nations commission, will also be on hand today. The mayor will fly from Jerusalem to Kosovo for a short visit.
