I'm wondering just who these guys were. They aren't going to be typical PFCs in a brand new civilian 4X4.

I would suspect they were security for someone important, which might explain why the rest of the convoy took off, since the VIP had to be evac'd to safety.

Whatever happened, I would not doubt that this particular vehicle was targeted. Just like the Blackhawks were targeted a few weeks ago because they had the Maj. General JAG and the CWO and CSM of the JAG in them.

That makes more sense, but if you were serious about security you would move out in tactical vehicles with guns mounted. Some places in theater it is not unusual to see non-tactical vehicles (NTVs-or SUVs in civilian speak), but in Iraq it is mostly civilian contractors who drive them.
