Why wasn't there another vehicle on this patrol? Why did no one know that these soldiers were missing until the young Iraqi went to inform other American soldiers? It may be that these guys were in the wrong because they violated force protection rules and were somewhere they weren't supposed to be.

Unknown gunmen shoot up this UNMARKED SUV carrying two US soldiers.....this smacks of an ambush staged from inside info.
I will bet that a video of this attack will turn up shortly on some Arab network..

With a minimum of two vehicles the odds of anyone either escaping the consequences of an attack or "kids" abusing corpses (or worse) are reduced.
I should add... if these "teenagers" are old enough to commit atrocities, they are old enough to be executed.
I ran out of tolerance long ago, with Americans dying every day.
No, I do not mean cut and run. I mean get serious.

You're not implying that there exists a force protection rule that allows, when violated, for summary execution by a band of teenagers?

That is exactly my question. Why the F*** were these dudes driving by themselves, and if they were allowed to do so, WHY? Someone's head needs to roll if they were given permission to do this.
We need to stop screwing around and lay down some hard and fast rules for road travel, for example you must be in an armored vehicle and in sufficient numbers to respond to attacks. The chain of command needs to start dealing some harsh discipline for anyone or group that doesn't maintain good security out of base.
The Army could start by taking some lessons from the Marines.
