November 23, 2003 -- Anyone trying to measure 9/11's impact on New York's economy - and, particularly, its transportation infrastructure - should take a trip to Ground Zero today and witness a truly historic event: the resumption of PATH train service to New Jersey.

WOW, great post NYC! I look forward to the resumption of service, very much. I think I'll be scared the first time I ride, but I guess I'll get over it.

PATH did great, throughout this entire debacle. Kudos to them.

Jersey riders have been seriously inconvenienced for 26 months. This has hampered vital commercial activity in Gotham's economic epicenter.

Looks good. What have the Jersey riders been doing in the mean time?

That'll probably feel similar to how I felt when I took the A train back down to the Broadway/Nassau stop 5 days after the attacks. Or when I took the E train a few days after it resumed service.

Btw, I took that photo yesterday on my way home.

Good job on the photo!

My crazy friend actually took the subway on 9/11, even after she saw the towers on fire, and even after a cop told her it was terrorism. She had voted and so was delayed in her trip to work.

She made it ok, what did she say? What we all said "I never thought those buildings could fall."

She did get a little spooked about her polling place though, the first time she voted there was the Florida fiasco, the second time it was 9/11 (she's a dem but a real NYer, brooklyn born and brooklyn bred and when she dies she'll be brooklyn dead)

Ferries? With the news on those in the past few months, that's a whole other can of beans. :)

I refused to get on the subway that morning. Right after the north tower was hit, I was on my cell phone with my dad and he just assumed that I was going to head up to work and I told him that since just about every subway I could take from here went under or next to the WTC, there was just no way in hell I was going to ride anywhere near a burning skyscraper.

Like your friend, I also voted that morning and I also never imagined those towers falling.

Not simply all that, but Afghanistan is free of the Taliban and Iraq is free of Saddam. Surely that was what Osama had in mind when he attacked America?

You must be downtown brooklyn too, no? Maybe you me and my friend can all get together someday. She is a stinking lefty, but I love her. And she does love America. If only I could get her to listen to Sean Hannity, she'd be hannitized! (harp music cue) I've tried to sway her, but she's a yellow dog, for sure.

Glad you were OK that day, and to this day.

Interesting to note that it was decided to retain the words WORLD TRADE CENTER as the offficial name of this subway stop. All of the pillar and wall signs carry those words.

Yes, very good article. I do wish 2 towers were going up to replace the 2 that went down - exact replicas with a few extra floors for good measure. That would be the perfect site for the memorial - and the figurative equivalent to a size 100 boot in Osama's posterior.

Jocon, I remember that the very last time I took the Path through that station was when I went out to see you for the Schundler rally that wasn't. That was also the last time I ever saw the Twin Towers, and I remember thinking I could reach out and touch them.

Hi Tabi

Yes, I remember that too. It was very close to 9/11, that same summer. The last time I was there was just about one week before, which was probably about one week after you & I got together. I went to visit my lefty friend (you know who I mean) and I remember saying to her it was so easy for us to get together, only three subway stops after I got to Manhattan. {Sign} Things you think will last forever, gone in the blinking of an eye.

I never did find out what happened to that Schundler rally! He's still out and about though, I'm sure we'll hear from him again in the political sphere.

We're coming back tho', slowly but surely. I was just in the PATH station at Exchange Place this week for the first time since it re-opened.

They think they can beat us, these Islamofacists, but they can't. We have not yet begun to fight.

See you soonest, I hope!

Hey sistah!

So right you are. I thought those towers would be there long after I left this world. But while the murdering maniacs knocked down our buildings, they're going back up (albeit in a different form - unfortunately imo). It's symbolic of our spirit. Knock us down; we'll rise higher! Just try messing with us now, towelheads!

I do indeed know who that lefty friend is ;-). I've got a few of those in the family myself, especially my cousin who's married to a German and believes that Europe is absolutely right to be spitting in America's face (sigh...).

I don't know what happened to the Schundler rally either, or to Schundler for that matter; I haven't heard his name in eons. I hope he sticks around. Good guy; I'd hate to lose him.

I'm off to lunch. Let's talk soon!

Nice pic, GOP!

Hobsonphile, remember taking the subway past the Trade Center stop when the big flag was up, right after the start of the war?

Nope. Financial District in lower Manhattan. But I'd still get together to meet you -- but maybe not your leftist friend. ;)

Well, the E train station still carries the name, and it's still in the A/C station at Chambers Street/WTC. And when the E trains started service all the way down here again early last year, the signs on the actual cars said WORLD TRADE CENTER. I have to admit that it was kind of jarring to see that back in February 2002...

Oh no! According to the leftists, doing that might upset the islamofascists who want to kill us anyway, and we don't want to offend them, now do we?

I fully expect the new building complex there to be called the World Trade Center. I haven't heard anything official on this, but I sure hope it is, because that's what everyone will refer to it as.
