Heh.... FReepers can locate and post an obscure document on any subject in seconds during breaking news, but they can't figure out how to use the General Interest forum to save their lives. It cracks me up.
Here are some FRequently Been-Meaning-to-Ask Questions:
So do you guys go to school for this or what?
Is it kind of like a truck-driving school, or do you take other classes as well, like P.E.?
Do you get to have your own Moderators' Convention, with booths and break-out sessions and the like?
Do you wear suits and ties when you're "on duty," or are you slobs in t-shirts and shorts like the rest of us?
When you go into bars and say,"I'm a moderator on FR," does that help you pick up chicks?
Office politics: Fights over who gets which cubicle?
Have you tried this on him? LOL!
.
Not hardly...
No, that is Lead pronounced "led", as in "lead balloon'", not "leed", as in "lead a horse to water".
(I didn't know we had "he/she's" here! ;-)
Nope.
Join us in our quest.
If it ain't posted here I just might find it.
BTW this is the best damned news service on the web, if something breaks I can find it before it hits cable or radio.
Good work. Now, how about moving all of the daily chat threads to Chat? There are occasions when, looking at the latest posts in forum, some chat thread regular is trying to push their thread past 50, past 100, past 150, etc. Usually it's a sextuple post, though I've counted a 14. Once the thread is pushed past a threshhold multiple of 50, the poster will give him or herself a big "Woo Hoo." Then another half a dozen regulars post their "woo hoos." Some time later, the process repeats. If the the articles you've linked at the top of this thread, though they are actually sourced news threads, belong in Chat, then certainly the daily chat threads belong in Chat. |
At the moment, News/Activism is by far the best option for misc. off-topic posts, as any Freeper who posts directly to General Interest/Chat/The Water Cooler won't get a response.
To get poster to start posting in the appropriate places, the incentives must be changed. The best way to do that is the convert the current news/activism "Latests Posts" into a Latest Posts that draws from all forums.
This won't hurt News/Activism, as long as Freepers are clearly informed of the change and are directed to the New/Activism forum for the latest posts in that forum only.
So do you guys go to school for this or what?
Yes, we've been to several training sessions. The last one was for 10 days in Aruba. We learned a lot about kittens.
Is it kind of like a truck-driving school, or do you take other classes as well, like P.E.?
It's mostly weekend events, the last one was at Palms Springs. We did have a session on how to nuke trolls, Zotting 101, and Viking Kittens 759 (that was the grad course, see previous question).
Do you get to have your own Moderators' Convention, with booths and break-out sessions and the like?
Not yet, but our last session we did discuss how to effectively ban liberals. Carvelle was to be our guest speaker, but we were too excited and banned him before his appearance.
Do you wear suits and ties when you're "on duty," or are you slobs in t-shirts and shorts like the rest of us?
We try our best to fit in with the gang. Sweats, shorts, t-shirts seem to be the prefered attire. But, there are nude weekends.
When you go into bars and say,"I'm a moderator on FR," does that help you pick up chicks?
Definately. It's a status thing, like having a porsche.
Office politics: Fights over who gets which cubicle?
It was a tough battle, but I have the window office. Jim's been pretty decent about it, so we can decorate our offices however we want. And, of course, we don't have cubes. We are the elite.
You and I wrote the same thing and I just want to pound this fine point again!
Re-pounding a GREAT idea!
You're advocating limiting the hours within which people who may not live in EST or keep the same hours you do can post news? Let's not. (I say this as a professional musician who lives in PST.) I think you're doing a great thing by bumping their stuff - please keep it up!
