Don't believe it. If Ronnie hadn't been the president, I don't think the outcome would have been the same. Worst case they would have won, intermediate case they fold, but go down swinging because we would not have been as strong.

I think Ronnie accelerated the process considerably, but communism and socialism are always destined to failure. They are simply unsustainable as they provide only disincentive to produce and incentive to steal.
Don't get me wrong - President Reagan did much to force the issue and he will always be remembered for his great accomplishment of finally getting Russia to break free of the chains of communism. I would never take that away from him as it is a great achievement. I don't think anybody else would have gotten Mr. Gorbachav to tear that wall down, but I'm certain that it would eventually have fallen down. How long into the future, I don't know.
