CSM, I'm just waiting for him to come back to provide one of these "causal studies" on ETS. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe he's on vacation, but I really think there is no such thing.

I wouldn't waste my breath - our buddy Mack hasn't posted a thing since then.

Even a 2 week vacation would be done by now.............

Your arguments are always the same.

"Smoking is bad."

No sh**!

"Government has the right to regulate."

In other words, the Constitution can be thrown aside if I feel I can't dine out 3 times a week. Never mind that there are already alternatives available to you, including take-out, drive-through, patronizing restaurants that are already smoke free and (gasp!) cooking your own food.

The market for smoke free establishments doesn't exist. On many occasions, government prohibition of smoking causes establishments to lose business or even close, because the non-smokers do NOT care to patronize these places, even after they are smoke free.

No, smoking bans aren't about "public health". They're about controlling behavior YOU don't like.

You're not a conservative, sir. Conservatives don't wish that the government take away rights in exchange for safety.

"If you really think that you somehow have the right to inflict damage on others then YOU are the authoritarian. No true conservative would ever think anything like that."

Then perhaps you wouldn't be averse to also banning peanuts, milk, egg, fish, shellfish, bananas, chickpeas, and nectarines from our public eating establishments? Read on.

"Dr. Richard Pumphrey, at St Mary's Hospital, Manchester, has been compiling data since 1992 on fatal allergic reactions in the UK. According to his records, around a quarter of fatal allergic reactions are related to food. Peanuts and nuts cause most food allergy deaths in the UK. Other foods that have resulted in occasional food allergy deaths are milk, egg, fish and shellfish, banana, chickpea and nectarine." - http://www.ffnmag.com/ffn_backs/Jul-Aug_01/allergy.cfm

I'm coming around to your line of thinking, but I don't believe goes far enough. I am for banning food, as well as smoking, from all eating establishments. Because after all, if you think that you somehow have the right to inflict damage on others, then you are an authoritarian, right?

I will not be satisfied until there is NO chance of harm when eating out!

Also, the walls should be padded, helmets should be mandatory, and glass containers should be replaced with plastic.

Ban all food from restaurants now! Do it for the children!

Yep, even my vacation has come to an end and I have to come in late to threads. I really wasn't expecting a response from them, I was more or less just giving my input to show that they can not prove any of their "facts".

ETS ShmessETS! Charts, graphs, yada, yada, yada. Sure I believe that ETS probably causes something if you are exposed to it long enough. BUT....

Remember people, this is a nanny state vs. private property issue. The rest is secondary to this argument, IMHO.

Naziboy authoritarian idiot, you and your long list of government alphabet agencies.

You also have an extremely twisted view of conservatism and what it means to live in a free country.

Your forgetting something. Once the government gets it's nose under the tent, they will not stop until they have the complete rotting carcus in that tent.
