In my experience, words of a Pakistanian should be taken with a grain of salt.

Except most serious archeological digs, ie, at Mohanjodaro and Harrappa have come to a halt since Partition.

Pre Islamic civilisation does not fit into the islami worldview and hence is ignored.

Yes, even in Pakistan, destruction of various sites and temples has been ongoing. The Bamiyan Buddhas in Afghanistan were perhaps the most egregious of these destructions.

Who knows what's been lost in the northern reaches of Pakistan.

But the critical difference in Islam, as Bernard Lewis says, is that the whole idea of any preIslamic value and worth is negated. Everything relevant begins after the establishment of Islam by Mohammad.

He make a critical distinction that this is not some extremist thinking, but widely accepted conventional thinking, particularly in the Arab world.

Witness the neglect of and ignorance about the Pyramids, the lost city of Petra etc; only rectified after the academics of the Western imperial powers started poking around the region after Napoleon took Egypt and then the British.
