The President had a busy day in London today, with a visit with Laura to Westminster Abbey, and a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, a meeting at 10 Downing Street with Tony and Cherie Blair, a joint press conference with the two strongest leaders in the world, and a visit to a London school for a Shakespearian production by the children for the First Ladies, and a tour of the Faberge items at the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

There are more than a hundred photos out there today, and even with culling a bit, I will be posting many!

I heard one of the horrid reporters ask a question that was completely vile, and saw the dignified response by both the President and Prime Minister.

It is indeed a world turned upside down when those who are SO good and honorable are hated as few others have been in history.

MAGAZINE RECOMMENDATION


This afternoon, while perusing the magazines at Borders, I happened upon a magazine entitled "Cigar Aficionado: The Good Life Magazine for Men." It has THE most extensive interview that I've ever read (or heard) with General Tommy Franks -- it features some GREAT photos as well (of course, I particularly enjoyed the photos of President Bush!)!

EXCERPT:

CA: What is your opinion of President Bush as the commander in chief? And how do you think history will judge him?

Gen Franks: Well, that's really a good question. I'm still apolitical. I want to preface what I say. Military people, a lot of times, are given credit for being ultraconservative and all of that, but they don't announce party alliance and all that sort of stuff. And so we call ourselves apolitical. Actually, I carry that into civilian life. I'm not a Democrat. I'm not a Republican. I'm not an independent. And the reason I'm telling you that is because I'm going to give you my answer to the question you asked, but I would not want people to say, "OK, well, here we have a political hack. Someone with ambition, who has now left the military, and that."

I think George W. Bush is about the best in terms of a commander in chief. I'd say that for a number of reasons. Let me give them to you in sort of ascending order.

I count him a friend, because I've spent a lot of time with him and I like his style. I like his style of leadership. I respect him as commander in cheif because he asks questions of his military. Honest questions. Hard questions. And he expects answers. And I appreciate and respect his balance in that he receives information, he processes the information intellectually, he discusses it with those around him, and then he makes a decision. And my experience with President Bush has been, once he has made a decision, he stays with it. Those are all very positive characteristics in the eye of a military man. One wants a commander -- let alone the commander in chief -- one wants a commander to be decisive. One wants a commander to be intellectually gifted so that, if a subordinate comes in and says, "Boss, I don't know. I think there's a problem here," the boss [will] say, "OK, tell me about it." And then, listen to him, make a decision and execute the decision. Well, as a senior military guy, to have a commander in chief who operates that way is just the best. I would't know another way to describe it. It's just the best.

So true!! Of course, we must remind ourselves that they're hated by the most EVIL among us. The GOOD among us recognize Bush/Blair for the COURAGEOUS, MORAL leaders they are.

THE PRESIDENT: Mr. President and Madam First Lady, distinguished guests and residents of Goree Island, citizens of Senegal, I'm honored to begin my visit to Africa in your beautiful country.

For hundreds of years on this island peoples of different continents met in fear and cruelty. Today we gather in respect and friendship, mindful of past wrongs and dedicated to the advance of human liberty.

At this place, liberty and life were stolen and sold. Human beings were delivered and sorted, and weighed, and branded with the marks of commercial enterprises, and loaded as cargo on a voyage without return. One of the largest migrations of history was also one of the greatest crimes of history.

Below the decks, the middle passage was a hot, narrow, sunless nightmare; weeks and months of confinement and abuse and confusion on a strange and lonely sea. Some refused to eat, preferring death to any future their captors might prepare for them. Some who were sick were thrown over the side. Some rose up in violent rebellion, delivering the closest thing to justice on a slave ship. Many acts of defiance and bravery are recorded. Countless others, we will never know.

Those who lived to see land again were displayed, examined, and sold at auctions across nations in the Western Hemisphere. They entered societies indifferent to their anguish and made prosperous by their unpaid labor. There was a time in my country's history when one in every seven human beings was the property of another. In law, they were regarded only as articles of commerce, having no right to travel, or to marry, or to own possessions. Because families were often separated, many denied even the comfort of suffering together.

I read in a biography that Laura Bush prefers browns, beige, and taupe. That would explain her choice of colors. That picture of her in lime (??) is stunning. Those beautiful eyes are magnificent. Also in the book, it records how she and her college girlfriends would practice their Miss America waves to the crowd. She has certainly had plenty of opportunities to use it.

Our President looks very tired. I want them home and to take a long vacation over the holidays.

Wow!!!!!, Coming from such a great commander as Gen. Tommy Franks, this is a great compliment to President Bush. It's one thing to have appointed underlings to heap praise on the Commander-in-Chief, it's quite another to have a retired General praise a Commander-in-Chief the way Tommy Franks did here.

I have read all the books on this President that focus on his style of leadership since 9/11 and I have concluded that I see an extremely well balanced man that is not concerned with politics when it comes to our security or the use of force, including the diplomacy that can avoid the need for war.

President Bush had the worlds problems dropped in his lap on 9/11. He accepted this reality and understood his responsibility to his people, and found his sense of purpose. His decision to unleash America's Warriors of freedom on those who delivered the senseless murder of 9/11, is delivering liberty to millions who once lived in fear of the authors of that deadly day in 2001. For these reasons, history will remember this President as FREEDOMS DEFENDER

Watch for Tony Blairs poll numbers to go up, as well as GWBs.

For all the negativity the press placed on this visit to London, I think both Great Britian and the U.S. came away big winners. The press made a fuss over security and the potential for violent riots in the streets of London, only to be once again, painfully wrong. The protest in London looked more like a overblown gathering of the pathetic creatures here in America who serve as "Useful Idiots" for the communist backed group known as ANSWER.
