The President had a busy day in London today, with a visit with Laura to Westminster Abbey, and a wreath laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Warrior, a meeting at 10 Downing Street with Tony and Cherie Blair, a joint press conference with the two strongest leaders in the world, and a visit to a London school for a Shakespearian production by the children for the First Ladies, and a tour of the Faberge items at the Queen's Gallery at Buckingham Palace.

There are more than a hundred photos out there today, and even with culling a bit, I will be posting many!

I saw her and then Gov. Bush in person once. I got the impression she is a reserved person, not a natural schmoozer like many politicians and their wives. Throughout her husband's presidency, she's remained true to who she is. I respect that quality in her.

That's a tremendous idea. In fact, if I might offer a suggestion, you might post those passages and links to the entire speeches on your "About" page. I've been trying to find Pres. Bush's speech in the Ivory Coast he gave this spring, and I can't even locate it on the White House webpage! I don't think I'm going overboard to say that was the most eloquent speech about race by an American President.

Don't cry or feel bad about the Leftists who hate him. As long as WE stand by him, never abandon him, and show our support by helping to reelect him next year, what does their hatred matter?! I say be defiant and annoy a Leftist by volunteering at your local Bush-Cheney HQ next year. (Actually, I use more, umm, colorful language when speaking of Leftists, but I'm trying to be polite here.)

I think that's one of the most attractive qualities in them both, Wolfstar.

They are absolutely comfortable with who they are, and so can stay the same regardless of the remarkable circumstances in which they find themselves.

Like sleeping in Buckingham Palace, and dining with the Queen?! Wow! Who could stay humble after THAT!

Here's what I think is unique and neat and maybe something that tells the difference between the "good" guys and "bad" guys (whether liberals, terrorists, etc).

At the same time we are fighting wars, worrying about terrorists, etc., etc., they are also having a turkey-naming contest on the White House website, for the turkeys the president will pardon before Thanksgiving, another tradition. Some people see this as frivilous (I think I even heard some Dem. criticize it--Kennedy, maybe?) but I think it just shows how we're not totally consumed by one thing--whether it be terrorism, war, election . . . YES, those things are important, of vital importance, but there is more out there.

I think it shows we know GOD is in control, and we can only control so much. We do what we can, and leave the rest to Him. AND we can have some fun and joy in our lives!

My thoughts aren't very organized tonight, and someone else can probably express them better, but I think you get the point.

Thanks for recognizing the compliment I was paying our First Lady. There is the tinsel-town kind of beauty that comes and goes with makeup and a few years time. Then there's the kind of beauty that lets a 57-year-old mother of two look as radiant and serene as does Mrs. Bush. We should all be so fortunate to have the latter.

Sometimes I wish we could still speak like Jane Austen characters, don't you?

BIG SMILE that's much of why I read her books over and over, and watch / listen to the movies of them ... the Brits have got speech DOWN and Jane Austen is one of the most eloquent of their advertisements for that extraordinary talent. When I was a young girl, about 10, I told my parents that I'd been teased at school for my vocabulary -- it was too, well, big. My mother, in a rare moment of encouragement and exhortation, turned to me and said strongly, "Don't EVER lose your vocabulary. It will help you and open doors for you all your life." She insisted I take Latin -- three years of it, and I am extremely grateful for it (now).

However, the "talk" around my home was a hodgepodge of my English verbal heritage, Midwestern common sense roots, and unfortunately a lot of unedifying speech. I have had much to unlearn in conversational English. This may sound weird, but reading / listening to Austen's characters has been a way to rebuild my mind / thought processes in how to communicate. It is as if Jane Austen's family has sort of become my own. You hear her father's voice so often coming through her shining characters, speaking wisdom from generations past. And the eloquence, well, it is beyond praise in my opinion.

I look forward to long chats with the authoress in heaven. =)

I'll make a point of looking for the Ivory Coast speech. My company closes for two weeks over the Christmas-New Years holiday. I plan to spend some time then copying all the significant speeches to MS Word so I can pick out the most striking (to me) passages. Also plan to include links to each one. We just had a liberal fool ring our doorbell trying to get us to sign an anti-Bush petition. Mind you, the idiot was fully aware of the Bush-Cheney 04 sign prominentaly displayed on the front door. He didn't want to take 'no' for an answer and even wanted to argue his points with my spouse.

Mr. Prairie sent him on his way with an earful. I was fixing dinner. That sorry excuse for a person doesn't know how lucky he was that it was Mr. Prairie that answered the door!! I might have bloodied his nose. GRRRRRRRRRR!!

President Bush has been through a lot, and it shows. I'm not the religious type, but thank God we have George W. Bush and NOT Algore!!! Not sure where we'd be if that dolt had actually won the election.
