I have a problem with the concept that a business that contracts to other businesses is responsible for whether or not those businesses follow all the rules. Carry that concept out and I can be held accountable as an end-user if I shop at a store that dumps toxic waste...

When we sign for purchases in the military, we have to sign a statement that "to the best of our knowledge no ozone-depleting chemicals were used in the manufacture of the items....". Talk about a crock of **it. As if most of us have an idea of whether or not manufacturers are breaking federal laws...

Many news articles have stated that the feds have information obtained by wiretaps and other surveillance, that PROVES that wal-mart execs were in on this illegal activity.

Me too. The lawyers are going after WalMart because it has deep pockets, but it's still a dangerous precedent. In theory, every homeowner would be liable if a housecleaning service or painting contractor had an illegal on the job.

I got an idea. Let's hold the INS responsible for any illegal aliens in this country.

It depends --- there are clear rules to follow if using what is called "contract labor" and a lot of this "contract labor" is being done as a way for companies to avoid following certain wage and labor laws and other labor laws. You have to be careful --- if the contract labor is expected to follow your procedures and rules but you have them working overtime for no overtime pay, you can be in trouble for doing that.
