Sometimes you just don't know what you've got 'till it's gone.

Look at this number...
, 71.5 percent of Iraqis think the U.S. occupation is necessary at least for a while, compared to 42 percent in a survey by the centre in June.

I think this was his purpose in the 'urgent' meeting with Bremer, and the declaration afterwards of a timetable for self-rule. The people in Iraq were getting jumpy about the situation, and Bush wanted to send a clear message that we are there for them, but will push for self-rule as quickly as possible. The message was received loud and clear.

'Course they want us to stay. Once we leave, they are likely to fall under the domination of Baathist fascists or else Islamic fundamentalists.
Much as the Left criticizes GW for being naive in thinking Middle Easterners would like freedom, it seems instead that the Left is naive, in thinking they would not like freedom.

A growing number of Iraqis think occupying U.S. troops should stay in Iraq until the security situation improves, research published this month has shown. In a survey carried out by the respected Psychological Research Centre of Baghdad University, 71.5 percent of Iraqis think the U.S. occupation is necessary at least for a while..

71.5 percent of Iraqis think the U.S. occupation is necessary at least for a whileWow, this can certainly be considered a MANDATE as it is difficult to get a nation to support anything controversial with such high numbers over 70%.
This is really hugh, but it will never get the airtime it deserves. However, the people will learn of it thru the other sources they use to get their news nowadays.
