Why is this a big deal? Are people forced to work there? Don't they agree to the terms of their employment beforehand?

If they don't want to offer the pay AND benefits required to attract quality people, they'll get what they deserve. Mediocre employees, and high turn over. That's pretty much what the got from what I can see.

You get what you pay for. If you don't like their benefits package(or lack there of) don't work for them.

Quit trying to make it out as some sort of scandal.
